Yesterday was an incredible day for Sunday Streets. The 10-block Mission District street party closed the greater part of Valencia Street to bring feet to the pavement for shopping, sunshine, and services. This year, Mission Housing expanded our footprint from 14th Street to 17th/18th Street — bringing health and wellness services directly in front of one of our senior sites, Alcantara Court Apartments. We want to thank our partners from the @SF Disability and Aging Services, Mission Neighborhood Health Center, Food & Water Watch, @Tai Chi, and our staff volunteers for making each moment memorable for our community. “Quinceañera” was a labor of love, and a letter of gratitude and respect to my boss, mentor and friend Marcia Contreras. If we’re linked up here and you attended last Thursday’s fundraiser, I appreciate you 🙏🏽 Your support does not go unnoticed. I’m grateful. Do know, as good as I am at my job, the impact felt at events like “Quinceañera” is meticulously thought about then executed by a symphony of people of which I am but a small note of. It starts at the top with leadership like Marcia, Sam Moss and the Mission Housing Development Corporation Board of Directors who trust me with these ideas. The vision is then relayed to my colleagues Annette and Leslie who have to figure out how to deliver and overdeliver at the standard expected. And then it takes a village and here we thank Michelle Barrionuevo-Mazzini (that’s now 3 fundraisers for her and I) who are instrumental in making the vision come alive. Followed by Jason Mulvaney, Al Perez, Carlos Moran, Aura Barba Serrato, Erik Leiva, metzi henriquez, Seis Soles Wine Co., Margaret (Missy) Deus, Rubén Palma, Emily Escobar, Hillary Ronen (and her team Ana Camila Herrera + Jackie Prager), Erika Diaz + Yomara Lopez, and of course all the event sponsors who believed we could deliver a memorable evening that would inspired all 200+ attendees. Most importantly, all this work isn’t possible without the unreal support of my wife Natalie Garcia Lara who puts up with 1 a.m. work nights and weekends consumed by my need to be the best I can possibly be. On Thursday, July 18, 2024, we celebrated Marcia Contreras and her 15 years of service to the San Francisco community and Mission Housing Development Corporation. Without a doubt, it was one of the most #inspiring, and full of love and respect events that I’ve ever helped coordinate. Marcia, you are a beacon of hope to many. Your #leadership continues to be a source of #motivation and grounding. The #empowerment you instill in others is a direct reflection of your #purpose in the organization and ties to the #community. Thank you for leading us with high hopes, integrity, and the ability to put others first. Thank you to my boss Julio Lara, my colleague Leslie Rosales, and our event planner Michelle Barrionuevo-Mazzini.
