  • As both a former nonprofit executive director with experience leading nonprofit mergers and currently a strategic advisor to others in this space, I have learned several key lessons. One of the most important is that creating a strategic partnership is not a task to be taken lightly. It demands a significant investment of time and resources, yet the potential rewards make it a worthwhile endeavor. The journey of partnership begins with identifying a suitable ally, understanding each other’s strengths and weaknesses, and crafting shared objectives that transcend individual capabilities. Rigorous due diligence is essential to ascertain the financial stability and governance integrity of the prospective partner organization. While these steps may seem exhaustive, they merely set the stage for the real work that lies ahead. The signing of the closing documents is not the end, but rather the commencement of a new chapter. It marks the start of a collaborative journey, a continuous process of growth, adaptation, and mutual learning. It is the beginning of a shared commitment to addressing complex challenges and achieving common goals. In the realm of strategic partnerships, the end is truly just the beginning. I’m pleased to share my insights on the art of building successful nonprofit partnerships including how to navigate change, integrate cultural rituals, and support people through transitions: https://lnkd.in/grf-_NzK #partnerships #transition #humanelement #nonprofitleadership #nonprofitorganizations

  • This new fiscal year has us thinking about the trends that will shape the nonprofit sector in FY25. So we invite you to join us as we launch a new 3-part series where we’ll explore these trends. We’re starting with the power of collaboration, a trend that’s making a significant impact. Nonprofits are increasingly recognizing the value of collaboration to amplify their impact, extend their reach, and optimize resources. This can manifest as shared services, joint programming, or even mergers. This trend is also propelled by a mix of external pressures and an understanding of the benefits of collective action. In this month’s article, “Stronger Together: The Growing Trend of Collaboration in the Nonprofit World”, we share our insights on three external pressures and highlight three examples of organizations who illustrate the increasing trend of collaboration among nonprofits, particularly in Illinois. Even more, funders are recognizing the value of collaborative efforts, seeing them not as a sign of weakness, but as an indicator of an organization’s adaptability and commitment to maximizing impact. This shift in expectations is not just reshaping the way nonprofits operate, but also redefining what it means to be successful in the nonprofit sector. You can read more about this trend here: https://lnkd.in/g-_B9FQW #collaboration #transformation  #nonprofitleadership #nonprofitorganizations

  • It’s been a busy 18 months for us at M+S! We’ve shared updates on our partnership, our operations and our services. We’ve introduced you to key members of our team! And you may be wondering, how did it all start? What does it mean? Our story begins as three separate parties - two organizations (Mission + Strategy and Keystone Alliance) and one individual (Judie Caribeaux); each distinguished in their unique services and spheres of impact within the Illinois nonprofit sector. We’ve come together as one through our shared values and commitment to quality, to leverage our deep experience to best serve nonprofits with a full spectrum of services. The last 18 months has been a transition period of learning, integrating and planning our vision of where we want to go and how we want to get there. We’ve gotten our feet wet in the marketplace with our new breadth of offerings while maintaining our existing services and clients. We’ve raised awareness of our merger and begun sharing our message of strategic collaboration, while for the most part, operating as service providers with the special care and quality we’re known for. Going forward, we’re moving together as a strategic, unified front to uplift the nonprofit sector and inspire a movement of collaboration. This is just a peek into what’s been going on. We look forward to sharing more with you over the next couple of months. Even though we are currently in a transition period, one thing remains clear. We see ourselves as partners in your mission, and we are dedicated to supporting your mission and community as if they were our own. #strategicpartnership #collaboration #nonprofitleadership #nonprofitorganization
