Day 1 is in the books (see what we did there?) and on to day two of Transformational Leadership training with Francis Jay Caputo! After surveying our public library directors, most asked for additional leadership training. Libraries are not just places of learning but also hubs for community engagement and innovation. The goal is to equip our library directors with ways to motivate and inspire team members, implement creative solutions to meet community needs, and enhance patron services and engagement. #MsLibraries #Leadership #Mississippi

About us
The Mississippi Library Commission was established in 1926 by an Act of the Mississippi Legislature. The agency was charged with giving advice, when asked, to schools and public libraries and to communities desiring to establish libraries. Further, the agency was required to obtain annual reports from all libraries in the state and to make a biennial report to the legislature of its work. The Act also authorized the Board of Commissioners to purchase and operate traveling libraries which might circulate to just about any library, organization, or group including charitable and penal institutions. Today, the Mississippi Library Commission offers a wide variety of direct and indirect services to libraries, government agencies and the citizens of Mississippi. We believe that all Mississippians deserve quality library services. We recognize that our staff is an essential asset in delivering services that ensure customer expectations are met or exceeded. We commit to working hard, exhibit honorable behavior, to know what is right and to do it. We believe in being fair, honest, and respectful. We value a workplace distinguished by open, direct, and timely communication. To that end, we pursue new ideas with energy and rely upon the talents, skills, knowledge, and abilities of staff and colleagues to meet the changing needs of the people we serve.

The Veterans History Project at the Library of Congress collects, preserves, and makes accessible the firsthand recollections of U.S. military veterans from World War I to present-day conflicts and peacekeeping missions. By recording these stories, the project helps future generations better understand the experiences of those who served. Special Collections Coordinator Charlie Simpkins oversees our Mississippi Veterans History Project, ensuring these invaluable stories are preserved for future generations. If you are a veteran or know one who would like to share their story, please contact Charlie directly at csimpkins@mlc.lib.ms.us or (601) 432-4498. It saddens us to inform you that Micheal Strawberry, Library Director for the Judge George Armstrong Library, passed away unexpectedly. Michael was a Port Gibson native. He was an acquisitions librarian and public services director at the J.D. Boyd Library at Alcorn State University before coming to the Armstrong Library in July 2022. We could always catch Michael in that signature Alcorn purple at our Public Library Directors’ meetings. To quote Armstrong Board Chair, Cherish McCallum, “We want to continue Michael’s exuberance and enthusiasm and love for the library and hope it will inspire people to come and be a part of it”. Michael’s passion for library service and supporting the community of Natchez was evident in the programs he spearheaded, his determination to build impactful partnerships, and his encouragement of professional development for library staff. We send our deepest condolences to the library staff, trustees, his family, and the communities impacted by Michael’s leadership. More information can be found in The Natchez Democrat at https://lnkd.in/gRV4zrN6.

We had a Thrilling and spooky time at the Judge George W. Armstrong Public Library's Haunted Library event. This was the library's first year offering this activity, and the community turned out for a frightfully good time. Sponsored by their Friends of the Library group, the Haunted Library was open on October 25 and 26. Here are some highlights of our tour of the HaUnTeD LiBrAry! #Natchez #AdamsCounty #MississippiLibraries
