🍂 Another autumn means another MLC nest-box study comes to a close 🐦. We continue to value our partnership with the 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗕𝗶𝗿𝗱 𝗦𝗮𝗻𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗿𝘆 (WBS), showing that local bird species near our Ste. Genevieve operation continue to thrive year after year. 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 𝗵𝗮𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗻𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗸𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 since our joint studies with the WBS began in 2016. This year, we studied nesting American kestrels, Eastern bluebirds, house wrens, Carolina chickadees, tufted titmice, tree swallows, and Eastern phoebes in over 100 boxes across MLC's operation. We also observed many vultures, starlings, turkeys, hawks, killdeer, owls, and herons. WBS professionals performed banding on nesting chicks and adults for research purposes. Our team saw great turnout for a weekend of 𝗣𝗲𝗱𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 🎗️. We were thrilled to be joined by Chloe Booker (our Ride for a Child team member), her family, and Greg Okenfuss (survivor, MLC retiree, and 15-time Pedal participant). Chloe, Greg, our former colleague Bob Rasche (who lost his battle with glioblastoma last year), and our Ride for a Child Angels — Brett, Ari, Kiersten, and Adley — continue to inspire us with their courage and remind us why we support life-saving cancer research. 🙌 Unfortunately, the Pedal the Cause ride was rained out ⛈️…but the fundraising is still on!
