About us
Founded in 1859, the Missouri Botanical Garden is one of the nation's oldest botanical gardens and a National Historic Landmark. The Garden is a center for botanical research and science education, as well as an oasis in the city of St. Louis. The Garden offers 79 acres of beautiful horticultural display, including a 14-acre Japanese strolling garden, Henry Shaw's original 1850 estate home, and one of the world's largest collections of rare and endangered orchids. For more than 160 years, the Garden has been an oasis in the city, a place of beauty and family fun—and also a center for education, science, and conservation.

Building on a long history of successful collaboration, Washington University in St. Louis and the Missouri Botanical Garden are welcoming two internationally recognized botanists who will have joint appointments with both research institutions. Toby Pennington, a leader in the study of dry tropical forests, will be the inaugural David and Dorothy Kemper Professor in the Department of Biology in Arts & Sciences, a joint appointment with the university and the garden. His appointment, starting Aug. 1, follows that of Lucia G. Lohmann, president and director of the Missouri Botanical Garden, who will also be the George Engelmann Professor of Botany in the Department of Biology in Arts & Sciences. https://lnkd.in/efh877bY

Much like the farmers we serve as they prepare for planting, members of NCGA’s St. Louis team donated a few hours today to help the Missouri Botanical Garden prepare for spring visitors. Volunteer hours were followed by a visit to the Garden’s Sachs Museum, which currently features an exhibit on the history of maize. It was a great day to give back to the community and learn even more about our favorite crop. Special shoutout to the Nebraska Corn Board's feature in the exhibit.

Our Dutchtown Beautification Team has been extremely busy in the early spring beautifying targeted spaces within the Dutchtown community! This past weekend, our crew leader Ronald cleared out several of the bump-outs along Louisiana Avenue as we prepare for spring plantings and maintenance applications. This Neighborhood Transformation Grant project is made possible through a partnership between Dutchtown Main Streets, City of St. Louis Community Development Administration, and Employment Connection. Our current Green Jobs cohort will also work on the Louisiana Avenue bump-outs and the native landscape garden in Marquette Park later this week in partnership with trainers from the Shaw Nature Reserve and Missouri Botanical Garden, along with support from our DOCY team and members of Dutchtown Main Streets. #stl #stlouis #stlnonprofits #greenjobs #dutchtownproud We are excited to continue to be strong partners in the ongoing revitalization of the Dutchtown community!
