🕯️ Honoring Those We Lost: Naming the Lost Memorials 🕯️ Last week, we joined Naming the Lost Memorials, a powerful annual event to remember those who passed away from COVID-19. Our piece, "Seguimos en la Lucha" (We Continue in the Struggle), pays tribute to the lives lost and acknowledges the enduring impact of this pandemic on our Latinx and Indigenous communities. COVID-19 hit our marginalized communities disproportionately hard, revealing deep-seated inequities in healthcare, financial security, and access to resources. Today, many are still facing secondary effects—from financial struggles to ongoing health complications. These challenges remind us that the path to recovery is far from over. Let us continue honoring the memories of those we lost by advocating for the resources and support our communities need to heal and rebuild. Together, we remain committed to the struggle for equity, resilience, and justice. 💪🏽✨ #NamingTheLost #SeguimosEnLaLucha #COVID19Remembrance #LatinxCommunity #IndigenousCommunity #CommunityHealing #NeverForget

Love my volunteer work at EPA-School supporting our future generations to have access to better resources. YOUNG WOMEN INITIATIVE We are thrilled to have had an amazing second meeting with the New York Junior League and Mixteca in our Young Women Initiative at EPA-School. Our students had the opportunity to dive deep into goal-setting and time management with The New York Junior League, while exploring identity through Social Emotional Art Therapy with Mixteca. It’s incredible to see young women empowered through such meaningful experiences! Join us for our next meeting on October 19 as we continue to inspire and uplift! https://lnkd.in/ehzAJsf4 #YoungWomenInitiative #EmpowerHer #NYJL #Mixteca #SocialEmotionalLearning #GoalSetting #Identity #ArtTherapy #EsperanzaMagnet #WomenInLeadership #TimeManagement #JoinTheJourney

Last night, the Mixteca team hosted a vibrant Fall Fiesta in honor of Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month and to celebrate an exciting milestone—a $2.5 million funding award! For years, Mixteca has been doing incredible work within limited space, but now, with this grant, we will be moving into a bigger home that reflects the dreams and aspirations of the community we serve. A huge thank you to Council Member Alexa Aviles and to the Office of the Brooklyn Borough President, Antonio Reynoso for their generous support in making this possible. And a big shoutout to our Executive Director, Lorena Kourousias, LMSW, MSPSY, and the entire Mixteca team for bringing this vision to life! Grateful to our generous sponsors, the Mixteca board and all the friends and allies who supported the event Jennifer Ablan, Beatriz Garcia, Everett Jessen, Harry Lewis, Martha Marquet-Schori, Rosie Piñeiro.
