Typography has long been a powerful force, with a unique history as a tool of resistance, empowerment, and storytelling. A practice best highlighted by contemporary designer Tré Seals, typography is used to elevate voices that have shaped history. Each typeface of his goes beyond brilliant design, becoming a narrative of the people and moments it represents. At MODA, we’re excited to share CHARACTERS: Type in Action, a groundbreaking exhibition featuring the typefaces of Tré Seals. Created by Vocal Type in collaboration with Civilization, it explores how typography has influenced pivotal movements for justice. Join us for an exclusive evening on Thursday, September 19 as we celebrate the opening of this powerful exhibition. First, an inspiring panel discussion where you'll hear from Tré Seals, exhibition writer Kaleena Sales, and Michael Ellsworth & Raya Leary of Civilization. If your child is passionate about drawing, building, or creating, unlock their creative potential at one of MODA's Summer Design Camps! During week-long camps from June 3rd to July 26th, campers ages 6 to 18 will use their creativity to re-imagine the built environment while learning about sustainable design, public art, smart cities, and more. Who was Jane Jacobs? She was an urbanist, activist, and writer, perhaps best known for her book "The Death and Life of Great American Cities." She challenged conventional trends in urban planning, emphasized community-driven development, and contributed to our current understanding of sustainable urban environments. Now, the first weekend of every May, Jacobs' legacy is honored with Jane's Walk: an annual global festival of free, citizen-led walking tours through the neighborhoods that lend so much character to our cities. Jane's Walk promotes civic engagement, and it connects leaders and participants as they walk together, sharing the stories of different communities. The best part? Anyone can lead a walk! What are the secrets to building a forty-year career in illustration? How can drawing shape one’s success in the fields of art and design? For the answers to these questions, we recommend seeking the advice of an expert, and we’re making it easy. In partnership with Miami Ad School, we'll be hosting California-based illustrator Craig Frazier for a Design Conversation tomorrow, February 21. He’ll discuss the twists and turns of his four decades in design while showing examples of his work and talking about his new book, “Drawn.” Afterwards, he will sign copies of “Drawn” (available for purchase in MODA’s DESIGN SHOP) while visiting with attendees.
