At Molycop, we partnered with a client to optimise their mineral processing operations. Their primary objectives included improving power efficiency, maximising flotation recovery, and minimising mill wear. However, they faced several challenges, such as inconsistent feed size, capacity and noise issues, and difficulty maintaining consistent cyclone density. To address these, we implemented a dynamic control solution that tackled issues in crushing, grinding, flotation, and discharge. By adjusting feeder speed, maintaining cyclone overflow density, and optimising the discharge circuit, we were able to stabilise operations, significantly improve grinding efficiency, and enhance flotation performance. Key Results: ✅ Improved grinding and consistent flotation feed ✅ Reduced variation in SAG feed coarseness ✅ Maximised feed density, boosting recovery rates ✅ 11% reduction in specific energy consumption ✅ Potential CO2 emissions reduction by 806 tonnes annually This success highlights the impact of our innovative solutions on operational performance, energy savings, and environmental sustainability. This past week, our team had the privilege of participating in CSIRO’s Cyanide Chemistry & Analysis training course. CSIRO delivered an in-depth program covering essential aspects of cyanide use in gold leaching processes. Our Gold Processing Manager, Adrian Paine, an expert in the field, was specifically invited to conduct Cynoprobe demo tests in the lab. His extensive knowledge and experience allowed him to effectively showcase the capabilities of Mintek's Cynoprobe firsthand. It was an invaluable opportunity to collaborate with CSIRO experts while our leaching team engaged with the course content, enriching their understanding of the processes involved. Promoting Safety First at Our Operations in Mexico Our commitment to safety is paramount and is at the heart of everything we do at Molycop. Recently, our team at the El Salto plant in Mexico demonstrated this commitment by organizing a dedicated Safety Training Week, temporarily pausing operations to focus on the well-being of our people. During this intensive training week, 11 comprehensive courses were hosted, reaching over 70 employees. The sessions covered essential safety protocols, including search and rescue, CPR, and personal safety practices. These sessions reinforced the importance of a safety-first culture in the workplace. They equipped our employees—and, by extension, their families—with skills that can be lifesaving in any emergency.
