Our hearts go out to the communities impacted by Hurricane Milton. To help fight food insecurity during these difficult times, we donated shelf-stable meals that distributed to some of the hardest hit areas. Erek Culbreath, Director of Mass Care at Florida Department of Children and Families shared what this meant to those communities: “On behalf of the Florida State Emergency Response Team, I want to thank the Mom’s Meals for their generous donation of over 7,000 shelf-stable meals to the DCF Hope Florida program. These meals are in use by Hope Florida canvassers to go into the hardest hit areas to provide immediate support to individuals who lack power, have suffered damages, or are vulnerable due to storm effects. Thanks to the support of organizations like Mom’s Meals, Florida is able to be the best in the national at responding to the needs of disaster survivors, ensuring that our most vulnerable communities receive the care and nourishment they need in times of crisis. We are truly grateful for your partnership!”

Over the weekend, a donation of shelf-stable meals was delivered to Georgia to help individuals impacted by Hurricane Helene. In addition, we will be matching employee donations to the American Red Cross to help even more in need. Truly enjoyed testifying yesterday at the U.S. House Committee on Ways & Means Subcommittee on Health - fun being on the other side of the dais! - where we discussed ways federal policy can further preventive solutions to improve health outcomes. My friend Mark Hyman, MD and I detailed the vital need to recognize food is medicine. When more than 40% of Americans are obese, and 5% of Medicare beneficiaries account for 50% of costs, things like medically tailored meals and produce prescriptions have been proven to improve health while reducing the costs of obesity and related chronic conditions. It's time good nutrition is treated as a central part of health and healthcare. Thanks to Congressman Vern Buchanan for convening this great panel. #foodismedicine #nutrition #medicallytailoredmeals
