Last month, MVI's Workforce team partnered with the Allegheny Health Network Front Door Initiative to hold the Charleroi Health & Wellness Fair! Over 280 residents attended the event which had 20 local resource providers, including mobile health screenings, dental exams, information on food access and government benefits, and opportunities for employment and housing programs. The event also marked the five-year anniversary of MVI's Mid-Mon satellite office in Charleroi which is staffed Monday through Friday 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. for job help, benefits assistance, personal financial coaching, and more!

MVI's Director of Workforce Development & Financial Coaching, Dr. T. Charles Howell IV, was invited to speak at the 2024 Rise Summit on Social Determinants of Health in New Orleans. Dr. Howell's panel discussed how healthcare providers can partner with community-based organizations (CBOs), such as Mon Valley Initiative, to provide patient referrals and sustainable reimbursements. Since the beginning of 2023, MVI's Workforce program has been a partner in the Highmark Health and Allegheny Health Network High Performing Social Care Network pilot program, closing the loop on patients who may need additional resources beyond healthcare.

Mon Valley Initiative's Produce Marketplace was recently featured in a 90.5 WESA article about WIC's decline in enrollment statewide. Take a look at the full article below!
At the intersection of health, nutrition, and child development, the federally funded Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children, commonly called WIC, aims to provide nutritious food to pregnant women and young children. Locally, Allegheny County’s WIC program will start offering some telehealth appointments in April — meaning recipients will not be required to make certain in-person visits — in order to make it easier for participants who struggle with transportation or whose work schedule might make it difficult to attend an in-person appointment. https://lnkd.in/dBDmx3gv
