Nearly twenty years ago, we created multimedia experiences for the 9/11 Tribute Museum in New York City. Located next to the World Trade Center site, the museum came into existence because of the desire of families, first responders, and others closely affected by the events of September 11th to share their stories. The experiences we produced evoked the World Trade Center’s energy and sense of community before the disaster, recounted the enormity and heartbreak of the rescue and recovery efforts, and paid homage to those who lost their lives. While the museum closed their physical site in 2022, we are honored to have contributed to the public remembrance of this tragic event.

It’s Throwback Thursday, and we’re going back to 2010 and the Arabian Horse Galleries at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky. Originating in the desert, the Arabian horse developed unique physical characteristics that make it one of the most influential breeds. We produced the “Discovery Oases,” five linked digital interactive stations that help kids learn about Arabian horses through a series of fun activities. #tbt

August 26 is Women’s Equality Day, commemorating the adoption of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution that granted women the right to vote. On August 18, 1920, Tennessee had narrowly approved the amendment, providing the final state ratification needed to add it to the U.S. Constitution. On August 26, 1920, the U.S. Secretary of State signed the amendment into federal law. While the amendment’s passage was a hard-fought victory for women, the great majority of Black, Hispanic, and Native American women continued to be unable to exercise their right to vote. #Equalityday #womensrights #vote

The big storms this summer have sent us back into our archives for this #tbt to feature “Extreme Storms,” an immersive interactive experience we created for GulfQuest in Mobile, Alabama. Visitors take on the role of a National Weather Service emergency manager who must evaluate and respond to an approaching hurricane. Tasked with making evacuation decisions to ensure the safety of millions of Gulf Coast residents, visitors quickly realize their job is anything but simple. #throwbackthursday #interactive_experience #climate #immersive

Executive Director Alan Hoff and Executive Creative Director Steve Bressler returned home energized by the ASSOCIATION OF AFRICAN AMERICAN MUSEUMS annual conference in Baltimore. After a welcome from AAAM President Dr. Vedet Coleman-Robinson, Ph.D., the opening plenary’s conversation between Coppin State University President Anthony L. Jenkins and Librarian of Congress Dr. Carla Hayden was not to be missed. Dr. Hayden’s stories of increasing access to the Library’s collections were truly inspiring. She described making Library treasures like the Blackwell’s Kinfolk Family Tree relevant and alive for a whole new generation. We entered the evening event hosted by Morgan State University to the beat of the Morgan State Band drumline. Performances by the Morgan State Choir and Sweet Honey in the Rock added to the energy we felt throughout the conference. As always, it was a pleasure to connect with other AAAM members, and we look forward to the next gathering! #AAAM24

For this week’s #tbt, we’re highlighting the immersive Treaty Theater at the Choctaw Cultural Center in Durant, Oklahoma. To recount the history of the Choctaw Nation’s many treaties with the United States, we designed a space that transforms with projection mapping and theatrical effects from a meeting room in the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. to the forests of the Choctaw homeland in Mississippi. We worked closely with the Choctaw Nation’s Cultural Committee on the entire project to tell the tribe’s story in their own words and convey their unique culture and worldview. All narration and Choctaw quotes in the Treaty Theater are also voiced by tribal members. #throw_back_thursday #experiencedesign #immersivetheater #immersiveexperience #museumtech #indigenous_voices #nativelivesmatter
