Today, RWJBarnabas Health experienced an unexpected global Microsoft outage that, if not managed aggressively and effectively, could have caused significant disruption to the health system. While we continue to work through technical issues, normal operations have resumed across the system. The ingenuity and teamwork demonstrated by RWJBarnabas Health’s workforce was exemplary. Led by the system’s Information Technology Department and Office of Emergency Management, their tireless efforts to resolve issues quickly and efficiently were critical in maintaining patient safety during a time of uncertainty. We thank our patients and community members for their patience and support, and commend our employees for their unwavering dedication and commitment. #LetsBeHealthyTogether

Some systems at RWJBarnabas Health have been impacted by the Global Microsoft outage. This is not a cyberattack. Our teams are working to remediate the issue as soon as possible. As always, patient safety is our highest priority. Out of an abundance of caution, we are delaying some scheduled procedures until this situation is resolved and will share updates as they are available. Thank you for your patience. #LetsBeHealthyTogether

MMC has introduced three new advanced highly precise technologies used to both diagnose and treat lung cancer. Late last year it became the second in New Jersey and the first in central and southern New Jersey to introduce Ion, a robot-assisted platform designed to enable minimally invasive lung biopsies that may become a key part of early diagnosis. The hospital recently celebrated the milestone of its 100th Ion case and continues to expand the advanced capabilities of its thoracic oncology program under the leadership of Dr. Richard Lazzaro, Chief of Thoracic Surgery for the RWJBarnabas Health Southern Region. RWJBarnabas Health has been awarded a grant from the New Jersey Food Security Initiative (NJFSI) to support a first-of-its-kind program in New Jersey to embed Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Navigators in each of our 12 acute care hospitals. The goal of the program is to improve food security and reduce hunger by enhancing access to food, a healthy diet, and nutrition education for low-income residents. Under the initiative, highly trained navigators in each of our acute care hospitals will work closely with individuals to enroll them in SNAP and connect them with other food access resources, including the appropriate county office in their county. SNAP Navigators will also assist with the recertification process when necessary. Read more about this initiative at https://lnkd.in/eSJ8yehk #LetsBeHealthyTogether #foodsecurity

Adjusting to the birth of a baby can be challenging, but for new mom Clarisse Mendoza, the RWJBarnabas Health Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders Center has made a world of difference. Clarisse, mother to 7-month-old Rafael Martinez, is among the 200 patients who each week seek care at the center located at the Anne Vogel Family Care & Wellness Center in Eatontown. Last month she celebrated her first Mother’s Day by sharing her story of hope in the Asbury Park Press to let others in her shoes know they are not alone — and help is not far away. This month, as a part of RWJBarnabas Health’s sponsorship of the second annual Prudential presents North to Shore Festival, produced by NJPAC, Clarisse was treated to a special meet-and-greet patient experience with multi-genre band Lake Street Dive at the Stone Pony Summer Stage in Asbury Park. Clarisse, accompanied by her partner Rommel Martinez and baby Rafael, got to meet with members of the band at the famed Jersey shore venue. Although the show was ultimately postponed due to inclement weather, Clarisse and lead singer Rachael Price, also a recent first-time mom, formed an immediate bond, sharing cuddles with Rafael.
