Tucked away in the serene country setting of western Flower Mound, Montessori Country Day School continues the Montessori Program that established its reputation in the community over 25 years ago. Serving families for a second generation, children experience a home-like environment that creates a sense of security and comfort. Small class sizes with dedicated and experienced teachers open the door to learning. “A child’s work,” Dr. Montessori wrote, “is to create the man he will become. An adult works to perfect the environment but a child works to perfect himself.” (Montessori 1967) Each child follows an individualized lesson plan tailored specifically for him after careful observation and close attention by the teacher. Children develop focus and attention. They aspire to more challenging work after achieving success and building confidence. Montessori method, philosophy and materials provide the ingredients for a strong foundation for academic excellence. A traditional Montessori school, Montessori Country Day School follows the nine basic disciplines. The four major areas of concentration are Practical Life, Sensorial, Mathematics and Language. The Social Studies (Geography and History) and Physical Sciences complement the four basic areas. Enriching these areas are art, music and perceptual motor skills. .

Sensorial materials are so cool! In addition to foundational lesson presentations, there are many extensions the children love to do as they demonstrate mastery over each material. How do these lessons benefit students as they get older? In so many ways! One emphasis in the sensorial lessons is to help children identify things that are "similar", "the same" or "different". This is particularly helpful when children notice subtle similarities or differences in letter and numeral symbols as they begin to read or learn operations and even in note reading as they learn to read music!
