Our speaker this week: Josh Johnson is WSFA's Chief Meteorologist. You can see his forecast every weeknight at 5, 6 and 10 pm. Growing up in Jacksonville, Alabama, Josh has known he wanted to be a meteorologist in Alabama since early childhood. Inspired by the Blizzard of '93, Hurricane Opal and numerous tornado events, Josh went to Mississippi State University (MSU) to earn his degree in meteorology. While at MSU, Josh started doing TV weather at the age of 19, working as a weekend meteorologist at WTOK-TV in Meridian, MS. An internship in Birmingham sharpened his desire to serve others in meteorology. Soon after graduation, Josh was named Chief Meteorologist at WTOK. In March 2007, Josh moved to Atlanta and joined the team at 11Alive (NBC). After a short time there, he accepted the Morning Meteorologist position at WSFA 12 News, a role he held for almost seven years. In April 2015, Josh was promoted to Chief Meteorologist at WSFA 12 News. As chief meteorologist, Josh has led the weather team in accurately forecasting numerous tornado events, winter storms and tropical weather systems. Josh holds the American Meteorological Society's Seal of Approval and is an active member of the National Weather Association, having served on its Weather and Forecasting Committee.

Our speaker for today's meeting. Bio below: Hodge, as he prefers to be addressed, has been in the newspaper business for a little over 20 years, spending his entire career with RAM Publications. Before entering journalism, he worked as a Network Engineer for several telecommunications companies. On the side, he wrote three screenplays but struggled to get anyone to read them without prior publishing credentials. To gain exposure, he struck a deal with Art Parker—Editor of The Millbrook Independent and Associate Editor of The Montgomery Independent—to write a movie review column in exchange for the company covering his weekly movie ticket. Before long, Hodge decided to fully commit to his newspaper career, leaving his higher-paying but less fulfilling job in telecommunications. He started as a reporter for The Millbrook Independent. Over two decades, Hodge has done nearly every job in the company, including reporting, editing, management, photography, graphic design, accounting, ad sales, and even janitorial work. But at the end of the day, he remains, above all, a writer.
