The Montgomery County Intermediate Unit (MCIU) is a regional educational service agency that provides a vast array of effective and efficient services that meet the educational and social service needs of Montgomery County’s 200-plus schools, including the 22 public school districts, more than 150 nonpublic schools, four career-technical schools, three charter schools, and the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE). Services are provided through nine offices: Business Services; Community and Government Relations; Executive Director; Early Childhood Services; Human Resources; Professional Learning; PaTTAN; Technology Services; Student Services.   • At MCIU, we’re proud to offer the Apartment Program, which simulates real-life apartment living under staff supervision. Students learn to manage essential responsibilities like financial budgeting, meal preparation, and maintaining a clean living space. Through this invaluable hands-on experience, the goal is to empower young adults to live independently, make informed decisions, and contribute meaningfully to their communities.

  • A heartfelt thank you to Upper Merion Township Fire & EMS for visiting our Early Learning Academy for Fire Safety Day! Our students had the wonderful opportunity to learn about the vital work firefighters do, explore their equipment, get an in-depth look at a real fire truck, and understand the importance of personal safety during an emergency.

Skills and Assessment and Speech Program Planning 
Join Dr. Esch will introduce the Early Echoic Skills Assessment and Program Planner (EESAPP), covering:

Goals of echoic assessment
Rationale for revising the EESA-R format
Syllable complexity and coding for analyzing early speech skills
Using assessment data to build speech acquisition programs

Participants will complete worksheets and planning tasks from the EESAPP Protocol manual, aiming to develop sample components for a beginning speech program by the workshop's end.

Dr. Barbara Esch 
Dr. Barbara Esch is a behavior analyst and speech pathologist with extensive experience in behavioral interventions for children and adults. Dr. Esch received her Ph.D. in Applied Behavior Analysis from Western Michigan University under the direction of Dr. Jack Michael and Dr. Jim Carr, and her M.A. in Speech Pathology from Michigan State University. She has published research on behavioral treatments for early speech acquisition and aphasia assessment and is the founder of the Speech Pathology Special Interest Group (www.behavioralspeech.com) of the Association for Behavior Analysis International. She is the author of the original Early Echoic Skills Assessment.
