Members of our Grays Harbor Pre-Employment Transition Team had the pleasure of attending Grays Harbor County Strategic Planning Meeting for Transition Services on August 15th. Stakeholders and Self Advocates from around the county came together to collaborate and create a vision for a positive possible future for transition students in Grays Harbor. Collaborators included Grays Harbor County, state agencies, school districts, The Arc of Grays Harbor, employment vendors, Pacific County, and Self Advocates. It was an inspiring day filled with shared visions, innovative ideas, and planning to better services for students. The group created objectives for the planning session, goals to accomplish throughout the year, identified challenges and obstacles, and identified how to identify success! Wise facilitated the event and created a visual board to show the visual representation of the game plan for the year! Grays Harbor Transition council will meet monthly for ongoing discussion of transition services in the county. Today is World Mental Health Day! This year's Global Campaign theme emphasizes the importance of mental health in the workplace. The campaign engages a global audience, including employees, employers, organizations, and stakeholders, to raise awareness about the need for mental health support in professional settings. Urgent action is needed to prevent risks and improve mental health at work, involving workers and those with lived experiences (NAMI, World Federation for Mental Health & World Health Organization (WHO)). Morningside understands the value of mental health and how mental illness can have a significant impact on the lives of both coworkers and clients. All of our employees have access to Mental Health First Aid training, which prepares them to enter the mental health conversation and provides them with useful resources and tools to use when interacting with people who may be living with a mental illnesses. Morningside also provides an Employee Assistance Program (EAP), which includes counseling and other mental health services as part of its benefits because mental health care is considered healthcare. Although today is World Mental Health Day, we recognize that mental illness can be experienced on any given day for anyone. October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM)! We would like to take a moment to recognize the invaluable role and contribution of workers with disabilities in our communities. Good jobs change lives, and all workers—including disabled workers—deserve the opportunity to prepare for, obtain and succeed in them. Reflecting this, “Access to Good Jobs for All” is this year’s National Disability Employment Awareness Month theme. The Pre-ETS team would like to highlight one of their student interns, Danika! Danika did her internship at The Children's Courtyard-North in Hawks Prairie. Although she was slightly unsure at first, she wanted to complete the minimum of 40 hours. As time went on, Danika ended up completing almost 70 hours! With encouragement and support from Miss Ali, Miss Jessie, and the rest of the staff, Danika got the opportunity to try new things and challenge herself to step out of her comfort zone. Danika expressed interest in working with children in the past, and this was an amazing opportunity for her to gain some experience in childcare. Way to go Danika! #clientstories #clientexperiences #Congratulations #promotingvisibility #Morningside #preemploymentservices #reachingemploymentgoals #paidinternship #MorningsidePartnership #empowering

Erica was a super star during her Pre-ETS internship with Ricardo's Kitchen and Bar this summer! Erica worked as an assistant to the host. Her duties included seating customers, filling water cups, rolling silverware, and bussing the tables when customers left. Erica worked 3 days a week and learned that good insoles are important when on your feet all day! With guidance from Miss Diane and the Ricardo’s staff, Erica broke out of her comfort zone and became more and more independent as her internship went on and she completed 70.5 hours. She was focused and stayed on task in a bustling and busy restaurant. Congratulations Erica! #clientstories #clientexperiences #careerexploration #Congratulations #promotingvisibility #Morningside #preemploymentservices #reachingemploymentgoals #paidinternship #MorningsidePartnership #empowering

The Pre-ETS Team would like to recognize one of our interns, DD Wells Burton. DD started his internship at The Children's Courtyard in early August and completed 120 hours in just three weeks. DD demonstrated that he is a natural when working with children, and the staff enjoyed having him there as well. DD's determination and enthusiasm for the work he was doing were very inspiring to witness. With the help of Pre-ETS Facilitator Diane, Miss Ali, Miss Jessie, and the rest of the staff, DD successfully transitioned children from activities to mealtime and naptime. DD said the hardest part of his internship was trying to stay awake during a naptime. #clientstories #clientexperiences #Congratulations #promotingvisibility #Morningside #preemploymentservices #reachingemploymentgoals #paidinternship #MorningsidePartnership #empowering
