Welcome to Day 5 of #ConstructionInclusionWeek! We've made it to the final day of this focused week, but we hope you've learned something that can positively impact the #constructionindustry in the future. Today's daily theme is #CommunityEngagement, centered on #WorkforceDevelopment. We recognize that inclusive, respectful, and positive work environments, both on the job site and in offices, can help attract and retain team members. This curriculum aims to bridge gaps and cultivate a workforce that reflects our multifaceted society by fostering inclusive training programs and creating opportunities for diverse talent. Engaging the community ensures that the needs and voices of all stakeholders are heard, leading to more innovative, sustainable, and equitable construction practices. This approach centers careers in the built environment as a tool for economic growth and fulfilling careers, ensuring a thriving built environment for generations to come. Today, make every conversation count and ensure that inclusion isn’t just an initiative but a lived experience. We're excited to see how you engage in today's activities and share your insights with the broader community! Don’t forget to complete the exit surveys from earlier in the week—your feedback drives change, helping us refine and improve for the future. Let’s finish strong! Together, we’re shaping a welcoming and inclusive #ConstructionIndustry.

Friends… I want to be a Sister of the Traveling Hard Hat. Let me explain: It’s #ConstructionInclusionWeek and, as you all know, this is an issue that I have centered on in my time at SEIA. We’ve organized gatherings, launched programs, developed tools, and published best practices. As an association, we’ve incorporated DEIJ into every vertical of our work. But at the end of the day, it’s companies that translate these goals into meaningful change. So, this year for #ConstructionInclusionWeek, I wanted to uplift a specific example of the #solar industry taking the lead. Enter: Mortenson’s Sisters of the Traveling Hard Hat. The Sisters of the Traveling Hard Hat is a #solar energy site-specific mentorship program. Project teams of all sizes will nominate a Site Sister — a woman leader who exemplifies positivity, grit, determination, hard work, and a team-centric attitude. The Site Sister is someone who takes charge, shares their wisdom, and creates community. On every Solar Energy project, team members are nominated and then a Site Sister is selected by her peers. The program provides a platform for these leaders to amplify their voices and pass on their expertise to employees across the business. Plus, they get a really cool hard hat! 👷♀️ I love this program for a lot of reasons, but there are two things that I think make it successful: 1) Community building. Mortenson has now created a community of strong women who can learn and grow from each other AND provide an example to the rest of the industry. This is how we build long-term leaders and retain the very best workers. It’s the same reasoning behind our Solar Sisters group and our affinity group gatherings at events. It’s about making space for strong social bonds and bringing more folks into the fold. I know that I personally would not be where I am today without the community of women I’ve met in the energy industry. 2) So often, inclusion is about seeing yourself in leadership spaces. Every team member at Mortenson now has a group of strong, determined women to draw inspiration from. Each project team is looking to women to lead. Showing young women and women of color that their leadership, their perspectives are valued… is precisely the motivation that Construction Inclusion Week is all about. I want to thank Mortenson, Eric Grenz, and Liz Lachowitzer for sharing this story and leading with this innovative program. I also want to challenge every business in solar: What are you doing for #ConstructionInclusionWeek? What example are you setting? How are you creating a community and showing your employees that each and every one of them can be leaders? The group below is from Girvin, TX, and highlights a recent recipient of the Sisters of the Traveling Hard Hat. Welcome to Day 4 of #ConstructionInclusionWeek! The week is flying by, but we appreciate your efforts, attention, and commitment to improving the #ConstructionIndustry. Today's daily theme is #WorkplaceCulture and builds on the belonging concepts we covered earlier in the week. A truly inclusive workplace isn't just about physical safety—it’s about fostering psychological safety too, where every voice is heard, and everyone feels valued. Our worksites are more than just places to clock in—they're the environments that shape the energy, emotions, and attitudes we carry home to our loved ones. To build the industry we envision, we must go beyond policies and practices on paper. We need collaborative, equitable teams where every person is empowered to do their best work and feel a sense of belonging. Today’s toolbox talks focus on cultivating respectful workplaces—places where kindness, fairness, and open dialogue are cornerstones of every interaction. Let's make every conversation count and ensure that inclusion isn’t just an initiative but a lived experience. We're excited to see how you engage in today's activities and share your insights with the broader community! Don’t forget to complete the exit surveys from earlier in the week—your feedback drives change, helping us refine and improve for the future. Let’s keep the momentum going! Together, we’re shaping safer, more inclusive workplaces.

Yesterday we celebrated the ribbon cutting of UW Health’s Eastpark Medical Center, a monumental project over two years in the making. This seven-story, 469,000-square-foot facility located in Madison’s American Center Business Park is set to transform healthcare in the region, with a focus on cancer treatments and women’s specialty care, while also offering a wide range of services. This achievement would not have been possible without the hard work, dedication, and collaboration of our incredible team members and valued partners.

Embracing supplier diversity broadens the supplier base, which encourages competition and leads to better quality and cost efficiencies. While this is project-oriented, it also has residual economic and community benefits. Sounds like a WIN-WIN-WIN. #ConstructionInclusionWeek

Belonging is about feeling like you’re part of something bigger, where your voice is heard, and your ideas are valued. When employees feel they belong, they’re more engaged, motivated, and productive. #ConstructionInclusionWeek
