I often get asked by industry professionals, “Who’s even hiring these days?” After my initial, “Well, you are. And if you’re not, you should be!” response, we dig into reality. The reality is that there is a lot of restless talent, white knuckle employees who have held on for dear life. There is also a tremendous market of talent on the sidelines. As companies reinvest in processes and technologies, the great ones are also reinvesting in their talent. The talent under their roof and having conversations with external talent. They understand that cycles will shift and want to be prepared for the future. The talent out there is brushing up their resumes, profiles, networking and upskilling. That doesn’t mean they will leave, doesn’t mean they won’t. Great companies don’t hide from that fact. They lean in and do the things necessary to win the war for talent. Maintain a strong corporate culture. Be unapologetic as to who you are, attract and retain those who share those values. Sustain an environment that is supportive to company and employee values! Invest in your employees. Investment is not always raises and bonuses (but also, not never). Investment is creating an environment of learning and growth. Foster a path for a career! Understand your employees. What are their individual personal and professional drivers and motivators. It’s not the same for everyone. As long as they are committed and giving 100%, support them and the things that matter most to them. Create a Win Win employee mindset! For some, this is a “Duh” moment. For others, this is an “Ah Ha” moment. It should never be a “Yeah but” moment. Business is business and your employees are the heart of your business. Take care of your heart and it will take care of you! The clouds will eventually part, will you be ready? #MortgageCareerExchange #SuperusCareers #MortgageJobs #MortgageCareers

To serve an industry, you must understand the industry, which is why The Mortgage Career Exchange attended HousingWire's The Gathering at Camel Back Mountain. Photo Credit: Me, post 3am workout First and foremost a shout out to HousingWire and their staff. Over my 25+ years in mortgage and recruiting for mortgage, I must say this was one of the best conferences I have attended. Well managed, thoughtful, intentional, amazing staff (talking about you Samantha Stein, Caroline Abad, Kristin and others) and access to hear from leaders of industry. A few takeaways: > The industry is out of the storm, but choppy waters are still ahead. > Now is not the time to let up. > Most major players in the industry are investing in people, processes, and technology. > Focus on your core competencies while investing in the future of the business is critical to picking up market share. > Never stop recruiting, restless talent, quality folks on the sideline and rising stars are out there to make your company better. To hear it from the top leaders of the industry themselves: The road ahead will be longer and tougher than expected. ~ @Frank Martell Continue to reinvest to keep the soul of a small company with the resources of a big company. ~ Terry Schmidt Forge ahead with AI as the nexus of humanity and technology, to save time and empower the team members to focus on the client experience. ~ Varun Krishna Continue to reinvest and build a lender where loan officers wanted to work and where customers want to transact ~ Dan Snyder Understand the landscape and navigate the headwinds through tenuous times, together we will get through it. ~ Greg Sher Know you your own business, understand your numbers, price according to your cost structure, work your ass off and above all get back to being human and treating each other with dignity and respect. ~ Stan Middleman
