Something to consider : What can convenience retailers learn from restaurants / and what can restaurants learn from c-stores? These vastly different industry segments are targeting the same customers' "share of belly". One thing is for sure - the bar keeps rising. Great visit with Alicia Cruzado Lopez and Susana Blanco Amesti and store team researching the ‘going places’ Madrid market ahead of the Insight Research visits before forecourttech on 14-15 October. ✅Harry and I really liked the simplicity and strength of the Repsol foodvenience strategy. Work with big, trusted brands like El Corte Inglés, ENRIQUE TOMÁS and Lizarran. Move to scale quickly, there are now 700 SuperCor sites, 200 with the Lizarran product and already 120 with ENRIQUE TOMÁS. ✅And it’s very interesting to see that Repsol is already working with ONE HUNDRED RESTROOMS too, after opening its first site with them in Barcelona. Because if you are serious about food, you have to be great at restrooms too. Watch the proportion of female customer increase.. ✅The third big finding was around technology. The Repsol Waylet app seems really effective - it’s a big achievement and includes car wash subscription too which I was really impressed with. I’m looking forward to coming back here again ahead of the super programme Stephen Bozdan has organised at forecourttech in Alicante in October. We see Madrid and then take the train North to join this event. ✅When we next visit in 14-15 October we’ll be with a global group of retailers and suppliers. I think they will find this fast evolving market, reaching for foodvenience expansion fascinating and of course it’s very hard to find better hospitality anywhere in the World! Thanks to Jorge Escuín Rubio and José Barreiro for the support too. More details: https://lnkd.in/egi_JZfG

How do we drive the foodvenience performance of the convenience store sector to make it as good as 'best in class' restaurants and QSRs? ✅ In many ways this is THE defining question for our industry in the next few years and is therefore exactly the topic myself, Frank Gleeson, Nick Scherzer and the Insight Research team are focusing on. ✅ Currently there is a big range in how the c-store sector approaches and performs in foodservice, right up to the level of best in class QSR or casual dining restaurant. ✅ When Carolyn Schnare and I sat down with Harry Milloff to talk 'foodvenience', my first question was to ask him about the unique, global perspective working with both leading restaurant/QSR chains AND convenience stores on foodservice gives him. ✅ As the convenience store industry continues to evolve into a heightened foodservice focus, that entails a lot of future shifts, new learnings and culinary skills. Harry talks about the 'patterns of success for this' and how 'the operator creates a level of baseline trust with the customer - that the food is safe, that it tastes great and that you're going to get it in a period of time that you expect'. ✅ We also delve into 'operational engineering'. Measurement plays a key role - understanding speed of service, cook times, capacity of certain types of equipment - all of these different metrics play into an 'overarching thread' which connects into guest experience. We also get into equipment capabilities and the increasing push towards digital - building a bridge to new demographics. If food is the future for your business, then this is a really interesting discussion.
