Move For Hunger mobilizes transportation networks to deliver surplus food to communities in need.

About us

Move For Hunger is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that mobilizes transportation networks to deliver surplus food to communities in need. As you may be aware, many people throw out a good deal of “stuff” when they move. Unfortunately, a lot of this “stuff” is food that could be delivered to a family in need rather than thrown away. That’s where we come in! Move For Hunger teams up with professional moving companies, corporate housing providers, relocation management companies, and multifamily apartment communities across the U.S. & Canada to rescue unopened, non-perishable food items from people moving and deliver it to local food banks. In addition to collecting food from people who are moving to new homes, Move For Hunger helps companies and individuals across the United States and Canada organize thousands of successful food drives and employee engagement events each year. Since its founding in 2009, Move For Hunger has delivered more than 32 million pounds of food - that's 26.5 million meals - to food banks and pantries nationwide.

Mover of the Month Spotlight: We’re excited to recognize Advance Relocation Systems as our September 2024 Mover of the Month! Since partnering with Move For Hunger, they’ve helped transport over +74k lbs of food—equivalent to approximately +62k* meals for families in need. *That’s enough meals to feed the entire crowd at [a local stadium, like M&T Bank Stadium]—and still have some left! This year has been especially impactful for Advance Relocation Systems (an Atlas agent), marking almost 10 years of working with us. One of their most memorable contributions this year was helping move alternative milk products from First Information & Technology Solutions_fruits_farm in Freeland, MD—a special location close to their company president's home. Not only did they support the Freeland community, but they also delivered these donations to Hope Outlet in Baltimore City, extending their reach to those in need. Let’s thank the Advance Relocation Systems team for their dedication, and keep an eye out as they plan to host another food drive this fall! #ThrowbackThursday to a summer moment we just can’t let go of! Back in June, we had our second meal kit packing event with the team at Lazard! Together, we packed 500 meal kits—enough to feed over 2,000 people. All that nutritious food made its way to Metropolitan Community Church of New York and Gotham Food Pantry , where it’s making a real difference for families in their local communities. Did you know? 1 in 8 U.S. households are food insecure, meaning they don’t have enough resources to buy sufficient food for everyone in their family. Events like this help us tackle this growing crisis. Special shoutout to Lazard for once again welcoming us and rolling up your sleeves to fight hunger!

Our Atlas Agents are more than just movers; they are pillars of their community, ready to rise to the occasion in times of crisis. Right now, many of our dedicated agents are on the front lines of relief efforts, loading trucks to deliver essential supplies to the areas hardest hit by Hurricane Helene. We are actively sharing the locations of donation collection trucks stationed in the south to support affected families. This list will undoubtedly expand, and we pledge to keep the community informed about our ongoing relief initiatives. Our hearts go out to the families who have suffered so much.

An ongoing strike at key U.S. ports is delaying the transportation of critical goods, including food. If the strike continues, millions of Americans—especially vulnerable communities—could face severe food shortages as fresh and affordable products struggle to reach grocery stores. The longer the disruption lasts, the greater the risk to our food supply chain, making it even more important to understand the connection between port operations and food security. Learn more about the potential long-term impacts of the strike in our latest blog ➡️ https://vist.ly/3mhv9rj

Incredible Progress Update We’re nearly 50% to our goal, and we couldn’t have done it without YOU! Your generosity is fueling our efforts to provide food and clean water to families across Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, and the Carolinas, all affected by Hurricane Helene. Trailers are being packed as we speak and will soon be on their way, delivering critical supplies to those in need. For context, 40 trillion gallons of rain fell across the Southeast during Hurricane Helene—that’s 20% more than the rainfall from Hurricane Harvey in 2017, which caused catastrophic flooding in Houston and resulted in over $125 billion in damage. The potential for damage and displacement with Helene is staggering, but your support is helping communities recover faster. Thank you for sharing and tagging us in order to get the message out. If you haven’t already, there’s still time to help us reach our goal! ➡️ https://lnkd.in/e_9QNeM2 Source: nhc.noaa.gov

🌟 Shoutout to Hannah Lane, CNP for representing Move For Hunger at the Food Sustainability Summit in Charlotte, NC! 🌟

Data-Driven Fundraiser | Working to solve Food Insecurity & Combat Food Waste | CNP

Spent my Saturday afternoon representing Move For Hunger at the first annual Food Sustainability Summit here in Charlotte, NC. The afternoon started with a panel of speakers from the community who are all apart of the fight to end hunger in one way or another. After, nearly 200 volunteers packed approximately 30,000 meals that will be distributed to those in need here in Mecklenburg County. My takeaway from the day comes from Ray Buchanan, founder of both the Society of St. Andrew and Rise Against Hunger: “I want hunger to be eliminated in my life time because 1) it’s morally right and 2) it’s possible.” Move For Hunger Feeding Charlotte Nourish Up Rise Against Hunger #fighthunger #endhunger #feedingfamilies
