This was the BEST! Check out what the little kids of my son's 2nd grade class asked me about being a veteran: Little Kid: "Do you get to wear read and black?" Me: "Like a ninja? Now ABSOLUTELY, however we wore camouflage when in the military." Little kid: "Do airplanes fly underwater?" Me: "Not yet, yet nice imagination...someday I bet they will. We have some pretty cool submarines though." Little Kid from Australia "My mum helps people medically and helped wounded in battle as a medic." Me: "I know your mum and she is really cool." Little kid: " My Uncle is a Marine." Me: " Awesome. Tell your Uncle Semper Fi...he will love that. Semper Fidelis means 'always faithful' and is a motto that really shows the spirit of the Marine Corps. Pretty cool." In case you do not know, "Semper Fidelis" is the Marine Corps motto that came about thanks to the 8th Commandant of the Marine Corps Colonel Charles McCawley. This experience was such a special way to honor veterans and celebrate being a Marine. While I was a Marine for such a short time, shorter than I wanted...it is always a part of me and how I serve my nation NOW! #veteransday #marinecorpsbirthday

Many of us focus on the next task or milestone, but how often do we stop to think about how we want to be remembered.... This photo is of Dr. Theresa Larson DPT, CSCS, USMC looking at a lovely painting of 1st Lt. Ashley White, a trailblazer who served in a special operations unit overseas, embodied leadership in its purest form! Her life was cut tragically short, but her legacy is anything but forgotten. Ashley built all-star teams rooted in trust, unity, and shared purpose—leading not just by excelling in her duties but by being the heart of her team. As one colleague said, “Ashley was the heart of this really all-star team...who could not raise their hands fast enough to be there.” White reminds us to lead in a way that leaves a lasting impact—not just through achievements, but through who you are and how you make others feel; ask yourself, how do you hope people will speak of and remember you once you are gone?🗯️❤️ To learn more about Ashley White and her remarkable story, check out the link in the comments for a book that shares her untold journey, called "Ashley's War"👇 #Leadership #humanfirst #Legacy

A POWERFUL STORY just broke🤩… …did you know the story of Los Angeles Dodgers Freddie Freedman's path to get to the World Series had a lot to do with his Dad? My good friend sent me a touching story of Freddie Freedman this morning that was so incredibly relatable. While I did not play baseball, I played softball, this story struck a deep cord with me. Like Freddie, my Dad was my rock (still is yet is no longer physically with us). He was always there...at every game, caught me during my off-seasons, traveled overseas to see me play, made it to almost every single collegiate game which is a lot in softball, helped me through rough patches that seemed to last a few games or more, also lost his wife (my mother) too young, and raised 3 teenagers on his own. A fond memory was when my dad was in the seminar in Boston, my college team Villanova University played Boston College (BC) a couple of times. At these games, he brought all of his priest in training buddies to watch my team play (all grandparents age) which was very endearing. Between him and my good friend from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and her classmates, we crushed! Special memories and moments I will NEVER forget. I appreciate Freddie sharing his story about his Dad, his child, and his life. I equally appreciate my dear friend sharing this story as I know it touched him too. What I do know for certain is when we are vulnerable with those we care about (to include our teams) we see the good in humanity, witness the commonality in all of us, and even experience immense strength. As a matter of fact vulnerability is a 'soft' aka power skill in leadership. I do not know Freddie, yet he is much more than a Dodgers baseball player. He is a human, honoring his Dad, his child, his family, and even his late mother. Here’s a simple low back stability exercise shown by Dr. Theresa Larson DPT, CSCS, USMC, that you can pair with your favorite mobility moves, like prone press-ups.
