What can we do to support teens during this stressful election time? We at Moving Traditions want to remind you of the importance of self-care for you and the teens in your life. To help you manage election anxiety, we offer you resources from our recent webinar for parents and educators of Jewish youth, Navigating Politics with Your Teen. https://lnkd.in/egRrdQ_V
About us
Since its founding in January 2005, Moving Traditions has championed impact-focused youth-serving programs at the intersection of gender, wellbeing, and Judaism. Along the way, we’ve partnered with hundreds of synagogues, JCCs, camps, day schools, and emerging organizations and we have trained thousands of educators and clergy to meet the needs of Jewish preteens and teens. Today, 18 years of research and careful program evaluation shows just how well Moving Traditions strengthens Jewish educators, emboldens preteens and teens, and engages families.

We're excited to share with you two honors recently bestowed on our beloved colleague, Beckee Birger! First, she was selected to join the Obama Foundation Leaders Program. The program trains participants around the world in leadership development and civic engagement to help build their skills and scale their work across public, private, and nonprofit sectors. Second, Beckee received The Covenant Foundation's 2024 Pomegranate Prize, which recognizes emerging leaders in the field of Jewish education by encouraging them in their pursuits and offering the resources and connections necessary to accelerate their development, deepen their self-awareness, and amplify their impact on the field. We are so lucky to have Beckee as our Director of DEIJ Initiatives. Beckee has shaped Kumi, a program that helps teens make sense of heart-wrenching events such as the murder of George Floyd and the flaring of antisemitic sentiment after October 7. She has become a beacon for the understanding that antisemitism does not put us at odds with other marginalized communities; rather, antisemitism, sexism, racism, and many other forms of discrimination share common roots and need to be studied and responded to systemically and together. Are you interested in making a difference in the life of a teen feminist? Moving Traditions recently selected 43 fellows to participate in the Meyer-Gottesman Kol Koleinu fellowship, to help them explore and deepen their Jewish feminist knowledge, channel their voices to share their beliefs, and express a call to action. As part of the fellowship, fellows hone their skills by creating a tangible project with the ultimate goal of creating change around a feminist issue in their communities. This is where you come in. Moving Traditions is seeking passionate and talented cis female, nonbinary, or trans adult mentors interested in social change and from a variety of backgrounds to support our Kol Koleinu fellows. Moving Traditions is accepting applications through October 11. Rosh Hashanah is often a time for very intense personal reflection. This year, it’s paired with intense concern for global Jewry, especially Israelis. May you and your family feel supported as you enter the High Holiday season. May all our people everyone be supported and safe. May bloodshed cease and a more peaceful reality begin to feel again within reach. May our communities find meaning, connection and hope as we gather together in the coming days. Shanah tovah – wishing you renewed hope in the New Year.
