Mozilla recently submitted comprehensive feedback to South Africa’s Department of Communications and Digital Technologies (DCDT) on its proposed National AI Policy Framework. This policy is a crucial step toward advancing responsible AI in South Africa, with a focus on ethical, human-centered development. We’re encouraged by its commitment to fairness, bias mitigation, and data privacy—values that resonate strongly with Mozilla’s vision of trustworthy AI. Yet, there are areas where we believe more can be done. Transparency in the framework’s development process is essential, as is including diverse voices, especially youth, to ensure AI policies reflect all communities.
