On September 6th, 2024, in Columbia, South Carolina, a memorial service was held to celebrate the life of Michael S. Watson (1951 – 2024). A founding member of Watson Tate Savory, Michael’s contributions to the profession, especially in higher education design, elevated him to a Fellowship in The American Institute of Architects (AIA). He also served as President of the AIA South Carolina Board of Directors. He was an alumnus of Clemson University’s School of Architecture. Michael became part of the MPS extended family when Watson Tate Savory joined McMillan Pazdan Smith in 2021. Michael was a friend, mentor and colleague. Many architects are still being inspired by his design excellence--especially through his award-winning work in the Carolinas. https://lnkd.in/eRGNk2e5 Architects J. Sanders Tate and John Jacques shared beautiful remembrances of Michael at his service. The memorial was held in the Earnest F. Hollings Special Collections Library at the University of South Carolina, one of Michael’s projects. Here are selections from the program, containing two of Michael’s sketches.
