Renowned artist Carrie Mae Weems has been awarded the 2024 National Medal of Arts, a prestigious honor recognizing her groundbreaking contributions to American art. Weems, the first Black female visual artist to receive this award, has spent four decades exploring themes of politics, feminism, and African American identity through a diverse practice spanning photography, film, installation, and performance.
