I’m excited to remind everyone that tomorrow (Saturday) is Dumpster Day! This is a great opportunity for residents to dispose of unwanted household items at no cost. It’s part of our ongoing efforts to keep our city clean and beautiful. The event will be held at Pinole Valley Park from 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM, or until the dumpsters are full. Please remember to bring proof of residency, and note that certain items such as hazardous waste, tires, and electronics won’t be accepted. Let’s all work together to keep Pinole looking its best.

For the first time ever, the City of Pinole has adopted a Climate Action and Adaptation Plan, which helps our city save money, upgrade our buildings, reach our state and region’s climate goals, and protect and conserve one of the biggest treasures in our town, our Pinole Creek Watershed. I moved to adopt this plan to secure a greener future for Pinole. To that end, with energy costs rising, as a Board Member for MCE, I am proud to have negotiated nearly $2.5 million in utility debt relief, which has supported over 300 Pinole families from having their lights turned off during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. We were also excited to host Pinole’s first-ever Earth Walk & Festival, which had great community attendance and youth and senior engagement. #pinoleca #murphy4pinole #murphyforpinole #election2024 #climateaction #keepthelightson

My term on Pinole City Council saw major wins for the working people of our city—not limited to the passing of a citywide labor agreement. I am proud to have the support of local unions, including endorsements from Contra Costa Labor Council, the Costa County Building and Construction Trades Council, United Teachers of Richmond, CTA, NEA (West County), and many more local unions and labor leaders in my re-election campaign. As I continue to represent working people in the City of Pinole, I will always push for their betterment and welfare.

Thank you Bay Area Reporter for featuring my re-election campaign for Pinole City Council this year! I was grateful to dive into the vision and plans we’re bringing to the table for a brighter future for Pinole: "Among his achievements, Murphy pointed to the council adopting on August 20 the city's first-ever climate action and adaptation plan that he had championed. Murphy also pointed to his helping in 2021 to secure $2 million in county funds [annually] to repair the Pinole Fire Station No. 74 that had sat unused for 13 years and reopened during his mayoralty. He has also voted over the last two years to approve 600 new units of affordable housing in Pinole...allowed the city to meet its 500 units of new housing the state has required it to build by 2030, said Murphy, who added the council is now focused on bringing in housing for people with very low incomes. "We have been very diligent and strategic about how we build affordable housing in Pinole," said Murphy. "We were one of the early cities to get our housing element certified by the state." I’m incredibly grateful for the support and enthusiasm from our community. Let’s continue this journey together—your input and ideas are what drive our progress! Together, we can make Pinole an even better place to live, work, and thrive. Read more: https://lnkd.in/gXPr_96p Donate here: https://lnkd.in/gyJQpt9J

Tonight, I watched Vice President Kamala Harris make history as she accepted the nomination to become the first woman president in U.S. history! Her candidacy represents a groundbreaking step forward for our nation. This inspiring moment reminds us of the power of electing leaders dedicated to positive change. As we celebrate, let’s also focus on the work ahead, both nationally and here in our community. Over the next few months, Team Murphy will be out knocking doors, making phone calls, and meeting voters in support of my re-election and Vice President Kamala Harris. Join me in building a future of love, hope, and resilience. Whether through volunteer or donating to our community, your involvement is vital. Together, we can—and will—make history!

For the last 12 years, Pinole residents have suffered from the closure of Station 74 as fire danger in our region and across the state have worsened. I am proud to report, under my leadership, we re-opened Fire Station 74, in partnership with Contra Costa Fire Protection District, to enhance our fire and emergency medical services for our community.
