Updates

  • September is National Recovery Month which brings awareness to those recovering from substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders. At Murphy-Harpst, through our CORE Services, we have providers that care for residents who may benefit from substance abuse counseling. We'd like to take a moment to remind you to encourage youth (and yourselves) to participate in caring for your whole health in wellness through healthy eating, exercise, and taking time to recuperate when overwhelmed and overstimulated. 💙 💜

  • There are approximately 11,000 children in Georgia’s foster care system. There is a home available for only one-third of them. Murphy-Harpst is working to change this. Thank you to the News Team at WJBF for covering our efforts with Evolve Program. Our Evolve initiative program is working to create homes for foster children to address the shortage and provide them with skills to help them transition into the community. We partner with local communities and government agencies to open “Evolve homes” in local communities across the state. Murphy-Harpst partners with local communities and government agencies to open “Evolve homes” in local communities across the state. Each home supports 4-5 children with two pairs of trained foster parents rotating working two weeks in the home, then two weeks off to provide stability to the children and balance for the parents. The program provides in-home therapeutic services through a full-time behavioral therapist, case manager, and part-time mental health therapist. The target timeframe for treatment is 9-12 months. • Murphy-Harpst helps severely neglected and abused children heal and thrive. We provide a safe, supportive environment to lay the groundwork for their healthy future. Many of our children are behind in school. At York-Harpst Academy, our school on campus, our teachers and para-pros work with therapists to create individualized education plans to help them catch up. Older residents can access GED programs, colleges, and trade schools in the community. Many of our residents arrive without any school supplies.
