About us
We empower women to learn their breast density and cancer risk. Unfortunately, most women are unaware that dense breast tissue is a risk for breast cancer, and standard screening methods will find less than half of all cancers. We want every woman to know. My Density Matters was founded by Leslie Ferris Yerger, diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer in November of 2017, two months after an 'all clear' mammogram and ultrasound. Her cancer was hiding in dense breast tissue, left undetected to grow and spread. Leslie wishes she knew this before her breast cancer diagnosis, and she doesn't want her story to become your story. We're on a mission to EMPOWER WOMEN to know their BREAST DENSITY and take control of their breast cancer SCREENING. It's all about CARE and EARLY DETECTION. Oh, the irony of being at the Mayo Clinic for scans on none other than #WorldDenseBreastDay. The scan is now over, so let the waiting for results begin. Ugh. Waiting is the worst. THIS is just part of the peril of what can happen when you have #densebreasts, and you wind up with a delayed diagnosis because of it. So if you wonder what all the fuss is about today, why is everyone talking about breast density? It's because breast density can delay your diagnosis because it is hard to see the cancer on mammograms, and it's also a risk factor. We can and must do better for the ~50% of us that have dense breasts. But for all of the talk, (and I applaud the talk and everyone's efforts including my own...) most people STILL aren't getting what they need. Women are suffering and dying unnecessarily. There is so much work left to do. This is why I spend all my time doing what I do, and why I founded My Density Matters - so that one day we can live in a world where breast density no longer hinders the early diagnosis of #breastcancer. That's our vision, and I do think that one day we will get there. Thanks to you all (way too many to mention) for your support of me and My Density Matters.
