We were thrilled to launch the pilot of My Green Lab Certification 2.0 at a sustainability-themed event hosted for AstraZeneca scientists at the company’s Discovery Centre (DISC) in Cambridge, England. This updated Certification provides actionable ways for labs to make meaningful, sustainable changes, incorporating insights from global green lab experts and now offering impact reduction estimations and financial payback projections, helping labs track the tangible benefits of their sustainability efforts. Now also featuring third-party verification by Impact Laboratories and an organizational dashboard for easy reporting, My Green Lab Certification 2.0 equips labs with the tools they need to track and effectively showcase their sustainability progress. #TGIF! It feels so good to start this weekend by becoming a #MyGreenLabAmbassador. 🌱 I’m excited to share that I’ve completed a comprehensive, free online program made available by My Green Lab, which focuses on laboratory sustainability. Throughout the course, I learned about the importance of energy efficiency, proper waste management, water conservation, and implementing Green Chemistry principles. The program covered essential practices, such as reducing energy consumption in the lab, optimizing equipment usage, and incorporating sustainable solutions into everyday research activities. With an overall score of (100-20)% 😍 😎, I’m now certified as a Green Lab Ambassador. I’m eager to apply these insights to promote sustainability within my lab space and encourage others to do the same. Please, do well to visit mygreenlab.org for ideas on greening your lab and practices. Green Lab has pretty nice individuals who are ready to support you; so if you have any questions, don't hesitate to email info@mygreenlab.org. Let’s make our labs greener, one step at a time! 🌍 #Sustainability #GreenLabs #LaboratorySustainability #Environment #ScienceForABetterFuture Kayla Stocking James Connelly

Thank you to everyone who voted– the answer is 3.5! Variable air velocity (VAV) fume hoods can consume around 3.5 homes worth of energy per day. Whereas constant air velocity fume hoods use the same amount of energy whether they're open or closed, VAV fume hoods, when open, use a whopping 110 kWh/day. Closing your fume hood sash is one of the most impactful things you can do to save energy in the lab. The energy savings from lowering the sash in a VAV fume hood can be upwards of 40%. That's a great reason to #SHUTTHESASH!
