Starting your first job can be both exciting and challenging. Here are six tips to help you succeed: 1. Be Proactive and Show Initiative Don’t wait for assignments to come to you. Volunteer for tasks, offer ideas, and look for ways to add value. Demonstrating initiative will show your eagerness to contribute and grow. 2. Develop Good Time Management Skills Prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and stay organized. Using tools like calendars or task management apps can help you stay on track and handle your responsibilities efficiently. 3. Be Open to Learning You won't know everything right away, and that's okay. Be open to feedback and seek guidance from more experienced colleagues. Show a willingness to learn from mistakes and grow. 4. Build Relationships with Colleagues Networking starts on day one. Be friendly and approachable, and build good relationships with your co-workers and supervisors. Strong workplace connections can help you get support when needed and create a positive work environment. 5. Understand the Company Culture Pay attention to how things are done in the office—communication styles, expectations, and values. Adapting to the company’s culture will help you fit in better and navigate workplace dynamics. 6. Stay Positive and Resilient Every job has its challenges. Stay positive, even when things get tough, and focus on solving problems instead of complaining. Being resilient and maintaining a good attitude will help you overcome obstacles and grow in your role. Starting your first job successfully requires the right mindset, hard work, and willingness to learn.

Whether you are a job seeker or an employer, storytelling is a tool that can bring authenticity to your interactions. For job seekers, a well-crafted story can communicate your experience and skills in a genuine way, demonstrating your communication and interpersonal skills. For employers, the story of your company, division, or team can bring to life the position you are looking to fill and demonstrate the benefits of working with your organization far more than comp range and list of benefits. If you have ever had coffee with me, you know The Knowledge Project with Shane Parrish is one of my favorite podcasts. This episode with Matthew Dicks on storytelling is loads of fun, and his tips can be used immediately to help you land that perfect job to advance your career or the ideal candidate to help your company grow. #careers #hiring #mypeopleperson
No matter who you are or what you do, storytelling helps you achieve your goals. In this episode of the knowledge project, you will uncover lessons on finding, crafting, and telling stories that connect you to other people and make them want to root for you. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eME8enBc

The Federal Reserve's recent rate cut is reshaping the U.S. job market, offering both challenges and opportunities. Employers benefit from cheaper loans, but many are cautious about hiring due to a cooling market. For job seekers, competition remains tight in the short term, though job growth and higher wages are expected as the economy adjusts over the coming months. #employment #recruiting #hiring #mypeopleperson

As a recruiter focusing on small and mid-sized businesses, I see firsthand the advantages of working at a smaller company. The personalized experiences, close-knit teams, and opportunities for rapid growth are recurring themes among candidates and employees alike. #careers #recruiting #mypeopleperson

In today's fast-changing job market, hiring based solely on credentials like degrees and certifications is becoming outdated. Employers need to shift their focus to skills and performance by incorporating assessments, job simulations, and real-world challenges into their hiring processes. Candidates should proactively demonstrate their abilities through portfolios, projects, or solutions, showcasing what they can do rather than relying on their resumes. Hiring for performance leads to stronger teams and better results for everyone involved. #Hiring #CareerGrowth #PerformanceBasedHiring #MyPeoplePerson

Gen Z has overtaken baby boomers in the workforce this year, with 21 million employed full-time in the U.S. While their elders often view them as "quiet quitters" and difficult colleagues, many loudly embrace corporate life and the stability of a paycheck. White-collar Gen Z workers are staying at a company 18% longer than millennials did in their first seven years in the workforce and are proud of their careers. Young workers in previous generations have questioned the value of corporate life before ultimately settling into the 40-hour workweek. Today's junior employees say they are pleasantly surprised with their office jobs and the structure they offer, especially when jobs are harder to get. What do you enjoy about your corporate job? #careers #employment #mypeopleperson
