How Often Should I Decontaminate My Cell Culture Incubator? One of the most common questions that we get concerning the use of MycoFog™ is “How often should I clean and decontaminate my CO2 incubators?” There are a number of factors that inform the frequency of cleaning and decontamination procedures for cell culture incubators: Physical location in the lab In a dedicated room In a dedicated spot within the main lab Number of users Training of users Frequency of accessing the incubator interior Other factors that may be unique to your facility A manufacturer of CO2 incubators, Thermo Fisher Scientific, offers a loose guideline of “periodically” in their white paper “Proper Care and Maintenance for Your Cell Culture Incubator”. From Environmental Health and Safety at the University of Utah, we get this guidance: “…one to two times per month (depending on the number of users).” In a recent article in BioCompare, it is recommended to “Carry out full cleaning and disinfection” once per month.
