I’m proud to have contributed to the newly released Equitable AI Policy Scorecard Report, which ensures that underrepresented founders have a say in shaping AI policies. At MyLÚA Health, we’re deeply committed to ethical data practices that protect vulnerable communities. As I shared in the report, "You don’t want to have biased data sets. And you also don’t want to have AI expanding already existing disparities, especially in healthcare." Our mission is to leverage AI for culturally inclusive precision medicine, ensuring that healthcare disparities are reduced—not reinforced—through responsible technology. This report is an important step toward a more equitable future, and I’m honored to be a part of the conversation. Thank you Yulkendy Valdez (She-Her) and Jorge M. Calderon for the opportunity to advance our work and the efforts of others in this transformative space. #EquitableAI #AIForGood #DataEthics #InclusiveInnovation #HealthcareInnovation #MaternalHealth #ResponsibleAI

📢 We’re excited to announce the release of the Equitable AI Policy Scorecard Report! 📢 This report (https://lnkd.in/ggGhvBp5) was created to ensure historically underrepresented founders have a say in how AI is regulated and shaped. We interviewed 30 founders from across the U.S. to capture their unique insights. All too often, our communities are left out of these critical conversations, missing out on the benefits of new technology while facing policies that can unintentionally harm them. For AI to truly serve everyone, diverse innovators must play a key role in its development. Just last week, our Managing Director, Jorge M. Calderon had the honor of meeting with congressional staff from both the House and Senate in Washington, D.C., to share a summary (http://bit.ly/EquitableAI) of the findings from the full report. He joined 10 underrepresented AI founders who showcased their groundbreaking work, offering policymakers a firsthand look at how AI can make a positive impact. We’re proud to have been part of this ongoing discussion and are committed to continuing our advocacy for inclusive AI. #EquitableAI #AIForGood #InclusiveInnovation Kyle Shannon, Remy Meraz Min ChenAnthony Matos Gerald Kierce-Iturrioz Del Smith, PhD George Holmes, PhD Tiffany Ricks Nicholas Freeman Constanza Gomez

We had the incredible opportunity to attend the BBG Ventures Accelerate Summit, an invite-only event bringing together top female and diverse founders for an afternoon of invaluable insights and conversations. The lineup of speakers was truly inspirational, featuring trailblazers like Martha Stewart, April Koh, and Toyin Ajayi as keynotes, along with successful founders and operators from companies like Warby Parker, The Honey Pot Company, Patronus AI, and Tribe AI. Throughout the summit, we delved into tactical playbooks for scaling startups in times of change, exploring topics such as: - Strategies for achieving product-market fit and scaling B2B sales. - The role of AI in driving innovation across industries. - Navigating the path to a successful exit for consumer companies. Beyond the wealth of knowledge shared, the event provided a powerful platform for networking and fostering connections within the vibrant community of female and diverse founders. A heartfelt thank you to the team at BBG Ventures for organizing such an exceptional event and for their unwavering commitment to backing big ideas and supporting overlooked founders who are reshaping the way we live. #BBGV #CompanyVentures #femalefounders #diversefounders #underrepresentedfounders #ai #maternalhealth #digitalhealth

This Black History Month, MyLÚA is reflecting on the inspirational work of Black healthcare giants who have shaped the field and impacted millions or billions of lives – folks like Mary Beatrice Davidson Kenner, inventor of the menstrual pad and dozens of other patented inventions, and Dr. Kizzmekia Corbett, who was instrumental in creating the COVID-19 vaccine in record time. Black men and women have made invaluable contributions to every field and subfield of healthcare and public health, and we’re proud to celebrate their accomplishments.  At the same time, we recognize how much work needs to be done to rectify the health inequities that persist in the United States and across the globe. Black Americans live 5 years less on average than White Americans. Their access to quality healthcare is significantly lower. And, when it comes to maternal health, the disparities are even more striking. Black parents are three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than white parents nationally, with some cities including New York City seeing Black parents die at nearly ten times the rate of white parents. We also recognize that these disparities aren’t insurmountable. Communities with greater access to affordable care, greater provider trust, and more informed community members have better outcomes, both for maternal health and overall health. We are grateful for organizations like the New Jersey Birth Equity Funders Alliance and leaders like Phil Murphy, who, with NJ First Lady Tammy Murphy, started the Nurture NJ initiative, aimed at ameliorating the maternal morality crisis and racial inequities in maternal care with grassroots partnerships and innovative data collection and dissemination initiatives. We’re also inspired by the great work being done by organizations like Health In Her HUE, and so many value-based care providers that emphasize patient-centric, culturally competent care, recognizing the importance of mental health and non-medical drivers of health, two important ways proven to improve Black maternal health outcomes in communities with effective intervention and treatment. We are so proud to be providing a solution that addresses such a pressing concern in the Black community. Join us in our mission of improving maternal health outcomes and making all parents feel supported throughout their pregnancy and postpartum journey! It takes a village.

So exciting for Maya, Mae, and maternal health on the whole! Maya is a true leader in the maternal health & maternal health equity spaces, and we are fortunate to have Maya and Mae as allies in our work to improve maternal health outcomes. Maya so well-articulates the broader societal impacts of maternal morbidity and mortality while grounding their work and advocacy firmly from birthing community's and birth workers' perspectives. Mae has already made an impact on countless families' lives and partner with dozens of organizations to provide doula services & pregnancy support, particularly for lower-income and Medicaid populations. As anyone in the maternal health space will tell you, this challenge is too large and complex for any one organization or company to solve. We need an interwoven net of supportive organizations to provide support to all birthing folks, no matter their socioeconomic status, health needs, or physical location. Excited to see this ecosystem of equity-driven pregnancy and postpartum support continue to help inform policy and decision-making at the highest levels.

    Founder and CEO at Mae

Last week I attended the Maternal Health Innovation Roundtable at The White House, hosted by the Office of the Vice President. The dialogue was important – and specific – touching on opportunities for public/private partnership to drive expanded services and supports towards achieving maternal health equity, and doing so with an emphasis on those who are publicly insured. I appreciated the opportunity to share some of Mae’s learnings over the past two years in two specific areas: 1) our supporting more community-based doulas of color towards Medicaid participation (and some of the state-specific complexity and variability that often entails), and 2) our work in identifying and assisting mothers of color with SDoH needs that may otherwise impact their ability to engage in care. To all of my colleagues who were also in the room, thank you for the critical work you do towards our shared mission. And to my Mae team and our community partners, full of beautiful hearts and minds: your work is seen, appreciated, and so, so vital.
