Mythical hosted our first "Off the Record" event this week, gathering together some of the best creative brains in the Creator media industry for a candid closed-door discussion on "Best Practices for Launching New Shows in 2025." Organized by our Senior Director of Creator Growth, Gwen Miller, and moderated by our Senior Vice President of Content, Kevin Kostelnik, the conversation spanned a host of topics from when to move a YouTube show to a new channel to how to use Shorts and other strategies as on-platform marketing tools. Off the Record will be an ongoing discussion series, covering a range of critical issues pertinent to Creator-led entertainment companies. We are excited to bring together expert voices on each upcoming topic, drawing from top companies around Los Angeles and beyond. We look forward to learning/growing together!

Last week, Mythical hosted its first in-house event for Creator executives, bringing 40 of the best creative and business brains in the industry together at our studio to hear The Webby Awards GM Nick Borenstein give a talk aptly titled "It's Giving Brain Rot." The discussion that followed explored how chronically online culture -- from Grimace shakes to Brat Summer to Moo Deng -- has influenced the way Creators, brands, ad agencies, and even politicians communicate with today's audiences. Special thanks to Nick for leading the session and for making Creator-led entertainment a special focus for the Webbys, this year more than ever. Thanks in turn to Mythical's Senior Director of Creator Growth Gwen Miller for assembling this smart crowd, full of energy and insights. Many more to come!

Mythical was well represented at VidSummit 2024! Jawhara Tariq, SVP of Corporate Development and Investments, and Gwen Miller, Senior Director of Creator Growth, led a fireside chat discussing venture capital investment in the creator economy. They emphasized the importance for creators to explore multiple potential investors to identify the best fit for their growth. Mythical’s unique approach combines equity investment with hands-on advisory support, focusing on channel optimization and business growth. Gwen also hosted a workshop on leveraging data to establish personalized best practices, addressing common misconceptions about YouTube analytics. She clarified how videos can have high click-through rates and strong average view percentages yet still not achieve high overall views—often because the content appeals to a niche audience.

We are truly honored: Rolling Stone has named Rhett & Link the #2 Most Influential Creators of 2024! 🎉 This marker of Mythical's influence in the #creatoreconomy is a testament to Rhett & Link's vision for building a television studio for the internet generation and to the hard work, creativity, and passion with which the 100-person Mythical Crew makes that ambition a reality. The article also recognizes Rhett & Link's investment in the next generation of internet-native stars, including Chef Josh Scherer and the Mythical Kitchen team, our taste-test experts at Sporked, and the exceptional Creators we've backed through our Ventures fund: Jarvis Johnson, Daniel Thrasher, and The Sorry Girls. Congratulations. Most importantly, we are deeply grateful to our incredible community of Mythical Beasts for their longtime love for all that we do here. Many thanks to the Rolling Stone editorial team, especially CT Jones , for including us on the list, and congratulations to the other game-changing Creators also featured!

We are honored to feature prominently in The Publish Press's coverage of how Creators are gaining prominence in Hollywood, not by selling TV shows to networks or streamers, but by financing, distributing, and marketing their own. Rhett & Link's upcoming limited series Wonderhole (debuts August 23rd on YouTube!) signals Mythical's deepening investment in the thesis that Creator-led entertainment is an essential element of Hollywood's future growth. Always a pleasure welcoming The Publish Press to the Mythical studio! A privilege to share more about the vision behind our new series, “Rhett & Link’s Wonderhole,” coming to YouTube on August 23rd! Thank you very much Nathan Graber-Lipperman Samir Chaudry Colin Rosenblum Taiga Fukuyama Hannah Doyle
Rhett and Link are making a TV show...on their own terms. I traveled to their studio in Burbank to learn more 👇🏻 On February 6, the veteran comedy creators (known for their long-running talk show 'Good Mythical Morning') uploaded a video simply titled "We're Done." After a decade-plus of pitching film projects to traditional entertainment companies, they revealed that they're now producing a TV-style show in-house and distributing it directly through their YouTube channel. Sitting on the 'GMM' set, Rhett and Link walked me through their complicated history with Hollywood, from getting their IFC show canceled after one season to struggling to adapt their best-selling novel in 2019. While the dream was always to become traditional filmmakers, the success of Mythical has allowed them to build a hundred-plus person team. Now, that team will power their creative projects moving forward. "Our entire lives, we’ve run up against the rules of the way things are supposed to go," Rhett told me. "What we’ve cultivated works for us." You can listen to my conversation with Rhett and Link on the latest episode of the Colin and Samir podcast feed: https://lnkd.in/evdQx9Kj Plus, they just released the first trailer for their new show, which is coming out August 23rd—linked it in the comments below ⬇️ #creators #creatoreconomy #entertainment

Mythical and food Creators featured heavily on the menu at VidCon this year. On Saturday, Mythical Chef Josh Scherer and the hilarious Nigel Ng, best known to fans worldwide as Uncle Roger, joined our team of elite pro taste-testers from Sporked — Managing Editor Gwynedd Stuart and content Creator / producer Jordan M. — to explore the current trends in food entertainment and the funny business of eating online. Later that day, Chef Josh led the first-ever live presentation of Mythical Kitchen's wildly popular debate podcast "A Hot Dog is A Sandwich" with ALL five Kitcheneers onstage, each passionately advocating for their favorite flavor — sweet, sour, salty, bitter, or savory. Congrats Josh, Nicole Hendizadeh, Vianai Austin, Lily Cousins, and Trevor Evarts on an awesome show, closing out a very successful VidCon for Mythical.

At VidCon this week, Mythical and Lunar X hosted an evening event overlooking Disneyland, celebrating the innovative Creator-led media companies we've each backed with investment and advisory. It was a pleasure to converse with industry peers and toast the impactful work of the Creators, operators, journalists, and platforms shaping the future of Creator-led media and entertainment. Here’s to many successes to come; excited for next year already.

Mythical Ventures, our creator investment fund, rocked out VidCon this week. Gwen Miller, Ventures’ operating partner, represented Mythical’s perspective on channel growth and the importance of custom strategies tailored to each channel. For those who couldn’t attend: your data is just your audience talking to you in code, listen. Look at your data holistically to balance your upload schedule to achieve your goals. In several sessions, she also shared the stage with YouTube’s Todd Beaupré and Rene Ritchie, opening up the curtain on how the algorithm works. Mythical Ventures investees Jarvis Johnson, Daniel Thrasher, and The Sorry Girls, all exemplary Creator media entrepreneurs, also took the stage in featured programming.
