NAHJ Career Center New Job Education Reporter: San Antonio, Texas San Antonio Report The San Antonio Report is seeking an energetic and curious reporter to cover the education beat. We’re looking for a reporter with a unique ability to cover schools in a way that makes our coverage essential reading for anyone who cares about education in San Antonio. Our nonprofit news organization, located in the country's seventh-largest city, offers competitive pay, full benefits and generous paid time off, and embraces a collaborative work culture. San Antonio’s education landscape is complex, with more than a dozen public school districts of various sizes, charter schools and private schools, as well as six four-year higher education institutions and a sprawling community college system. This creates a fertile ground for investigative reporting on school boards and special interest groups. Some school districts in the area are being overseen by the Texas Education Agency because of dysfunctional governance. The San Antonio metro has one of the nation’s highest rates of poverty, which is an opportunity for an intrepid reporter to tell important community stories that explore how low education attainment rates are tied to economic segregation, and the disparity in resources among school districts. The education reporter will be expected to break news and stay on top of the happenings throughout San Antonio’s education landscape. The community relies on the San Antonio Report for its expertise and its thoughtful and thorough reporting, and our education reporter will need to uphold those standards, from covering breaking news to enterprise reporting. This reporter also will be asked to integrate themselves in the education community to cultivate sources and gain trust with students, teachers, administrators, and school board members. Overall, this is a unique opportunity for a reporter to explore numerous topics in education and produce journalism with real impact. See more jobs at www.nahjcareers.org #MoreLatinosinNews
