Meet the 2024 NAHMMA Conference Keynote! Jay Banner is a professor at The Jackson School of Geosciences at The University of Texas at Austin and the director of the university’s Environmental Science Institute. His research interests center on climate and hydrologic processes, how they are preserved in the geologic record, and how human activities affect the resilience of water resources. His teaching interests include science communication, sustainability, environmental science, and environmental justice. Banner is also known for his teaching and community outreach. He is the founder of the community engagement series Hot Science - Cool Talks and principal investigator for Project CRESSLE, which partners researchers and community members to study environmental resilience. Banner is the 2024 recipient of the Robert Foster Cherry Award for Great Teaching, one of the top awards for teaching in the world. Current and recent projects take Jay and his research group to caves and urban watersheds in Texas.
