A new era for Downtown Pittsburgh! NAI Burns Scalo President Brian Walker, who has visited 27 different markets this year, reflected on the announcement, saying, “It's massive. It's on a large scale, way bigger than what I've seen in my travels.” Walker, who had the opportunity to travel the country this year while serving as NAIOP's national chair of the board, emphasized, “This announcement…is exactly what I’ve been preaching on the national level for three years…launching us into a whole new world.” With contributions from the state, the Urban Redevelopment Authority of Pittsburgh, and an unprecedented $40 million commitment from top businesses and local sports teams, Governor Josh Shapiro’s $600 million plan is set to breathe fresh life into our region's beloved city center. This 10-year strategy will tackle high office vacancies, property value concerns, and crime. The plan focuses on converting key properties into residential spaces, creating a safer and more vibrant Downtown. With added initiatives to fund police officers, mental health services, and youth violence prevention - this investment redefines the future of Pittsburgh.
