Why Surgeons Are Wearing The Apple Vision Pro In Operating Rooms Surgeons are beginning to explore the use of Apple Vision Pro in operating rooms to enhance precision and visualization during procedures. Dr. Horgan, leading UC San Diego’s Center for the Future of Surgery, is testing how advanced #technology can optimize surgical performance. In laparoscopic operations, surgeons navigate instruments guided by a camera's view projected onto a monitor, a task requiring intense focus and coordination. Recently, UC San Diego’s minimally invasive surgery department has completed over 20 procedures using Apple Vision Pro, including acid-reflux and bariatric surgeries, with full participation from patients and staff. Apple's device joins other surgical visualization tools like Augmedics’ AR system, designed for spinal surgery by overlaying 3D CT images directly onto the patient, aiming to offer surgeons "X-ray-like" vision. #ar #healthtech #future

Next-Gen Ev Battery Promises 186 Miles with a 5-Minute Charge ProLogium Technology 輝能科技 has unveiled its latest innovation: a 100% silicon composite anode #battery designed to enhance #electricvehicle performance. Showcased at the Paris Motor Show, the Taiwanese firm boasts a significant advancement in energy density and fast-charging capabilities, claiming a five-minute #charge can provide up to 186 miles (300 km) of range. ProLogium’s battery achieves an impressive 321 Wh/kg energy density, surpassing many current EV batteries. For comparison, Hyundai’s Ioniq 6 offers 153 Wh/kg, while Tesla’s 4680 cell reaches approximately 232.5 Wh/kg. Not only does it charge rapidly, from 5% to 60% in five minutes and 80% in 8.5 minutes, but ProLogium claims it's over 80% faster than most EV charging options today. Additionally, with a modular design, these #batteries could be easier to repair and recycle, potentially lowering EV ownership costs.

Airbus and Toshiba Team Up to Create Superconducting Aircraft Motor Airbus is joining forces with Toshiba to develop a super-efficient #superconducting motor for aircraft that uses the liquid hydrogen that supplies the electricity to cool the propulsion and adjacent systems. Of all the options for making aircraft emissions-free that don't include just turning them all into gliders, hydrogen is the most promising because it combines a relatively high #energy density with the ability to reduce emissions to little more than water. Hydrogen takes up a lot of room for the available energy compared to aviation fuel, and the only practical way to handle it is as a cryogenic liquid-cooled to below -253 °C (-423 °F). In #hydrogen-powered aircraft, The idea is that the hydrogen is fed into a fuel cell that generates #electricity that either charges battery banks or drives an electric motor directly. https://lnkd.in/gR34aXFk

New MGP Technology Enhances Aerodynamics At Auburn Hills Campus Stellantis has announced a major investment of $29.5 million to upgrade its wind tunnel facility at the Chrysler Technology Center (CTC) in Auburn Hills. The project focuses on innovative Moving Ground Plane (MGP) #technology. This enhancement is designed to improve the aerodynamics of the company’s #electricvehicles (EVs), a crucial factor for extending their driving range and overall efficiency. The new MGP technology allows for precise measurement and reduction of airflow resistance from wheels and tires, contributing up to 10% of total aerodynamic drag in real-world #driving conditions. Optimizing aerodynamic performance is essential for increasing #EV range, which can lead to smaller #battery sizes. This reduction in battery size can result in lower costs and reduced #vehicle weight, benefiting customers. “Range is a core consideration for customers who are transitioning to cleaner mobility through battery power,” said Mark Champine, Senior Vice President and Head of North America Engineering Technical Centers. “This investment is critical because, by reducing drag, we enhance electric-vehicle range and improve the overall customer driving experience.” The upgraded wind tunnel uses advanced simulation techniques that allow test vehicles to remain stationary while the wheels can move, simulating on-road conditions. This setup enables more accurate aerodynamic testing and faster development cycles for new models. https://lnkd.in/gcW_mitZ

BYD’s next car for Europe and the UK has arrived: this is the Sealion 7. It’s a model that’s already on sale in China, with its Euro-spec version making its public debut at the 2024 Paris motor #show. It seems as if cars like Porsche’s new #electric Macan and its Q6 e-Tron sibling, as well as the Polestar 3, are in BYD’s sights with the Sealion 7. It’s a rakish and sharply-designed crossover that shares a similar footprint to those European rivals, and features the same Blade #battery tech also seen in BYD’s other cars. When the Sealion officially goes on sale, it’ll be available with a range of different powertrains. BYD points to the flagship for now, which features twin-motor all-wheel #drive power good for a 0-62mph sprint time of 4.5 seconds. On top of that, the Sealion can be charged at up to 230kW and features a heat pump as standard.

Mercedes-Benz AG Shows Electric CLA Coupé Almost Without Camouflage The star brand is now presenting the barely camouflaged car at a fashion festival in Hyères in the south of France. Many details that together make up the appearance of the newcomer, such as the star-shaped light signature or the surface of the grille, which had an illuminated star pattern in the study, are not yet recognisable in the new images. At the rear, the new CLA will apparently have a continuous light line and two rounded tail lights on the left and right, probably also with a star-shaped light signature. Here the difference to the current model with its large rear lights is clear. As far as the #technology is concerned, it is known so far that the car will have an 800-volt architecture, which will ensure fast charging. In addition to #electric versions, there will also be combustion engines and plug-in hybrids, as the platform is electric first, but not electric only. The new eATS 2.0 drivetrain with two-speed transmission will also be used. The Concept CLA study had a 238 PS permanent magnet motor on the rear axle. Ranges of up to 466 miles are also expected. By comparison, the EQE with its 96-kWh battery achieves up to 429 miles, while the EQS with its 118-kWh battery has a maximum range of 507 miles. If the wheelbase of the new CLA remains the same as before (2.73 metres compared to 3.12 metres for the EQE and 3.21 metres for the EQS), smaller batteries with a maximum of 90 kWh can be expected. To get more range than the EQE, the CLA has very low energy consumption. The study should manage with 5.18 mi/kWh. In addition to high-range models with a high silicon content in the #battery anodes, there will also be affordable entry-level models with LFP batteries. #tech #cars

Comcast MachineQ has introduced an IoT-based power monitoring system aimed at helping businesses reduce energy costs and support sustainability efforts. The system uses #IoT sensors to track energy consumption at the equipment or breaker level, helping operators with predictive maintenance by identifying anomalies in #power usage that often signal equipment issues. The solution is ideal for high-energy sectors like food service, labs, and hotels, where energy demands far exceed typical commercial #buildings. For instance, restaurants can use five to seven times more #energy than other buildings, while specialized labs can use up to 100 times more. With devices like the MQpowerCT and MQpowerSP, businesses can monitor real-time energy consumption, detect inefficiencies, and make informed decisions about asset management. MachineQ's system, leveraging its existing #network, aims to lower the total cost of IoT investments over time.
