Hurricane Recovery Fundraiser- Help us raise $20,000! The Wesser Foundation, founded by NOC raft guide Jess Austin and his wife Debbie, was created to help aspiring guides build careers in whitewater rafting through scholarships for guide school, equipment, housing, and more. After Hurricane Helene, Jess, NOC owners, staff, alumni, and friends came together to raise funds for displaced guides and impacted employees in need of immediate support. This weekend, the Foundation—alongside NOC owners—will generously match all donations collected at our Guest Appreciation Festival or online, up to $10,000. Every dollar raised will go directly to support the recovery and rebuilding of small river towns in need. If you can’t make it this weekend, online donations are still eligible for the match. Thank you for supporting our communities. https://lnkd.in/ekE4c6V5

To Our NOC Community, As most of you know, the Southeast was ravaged by Hurricane Helene. Our hearts are broken by the devastation and the lives lost. We have been busy checking on our staff and organizing efforts to collect and distribute much needed supplies to our river communities in crisis. The impact of this weather event will be felt for years to come. We wanted to provide an update as well as ways to help at this time if you so feel inclined. Most of our operations sustained minimal damage with the exception of our staff housing, but our guides are safe. Our Bryson City Campus remained completely intact, a blessing we feel most fortunate about. River's End Restaurant, The Outfitter's Store, General Store, and our lodging are all open for our local community to get a hot meal, access Wi-Fi and free potable water. Our adventure operations are closed until further notice, with the exception of our Ocoee River Outpost. If you can safely access our locations without impact to the area's limited resources, our guides and staff could use the work. Local Supply Drop Off- The NOC Outfitter's Store is collecting needed supplies to take to areas impacted areas. We have posted a list on our facebook page of toiletries, water and supplies. If you can safety get to us, we will accept and transport it. Monetary Donations- We have vetted both regional and local community organizations that need monetary support and are boots-on-the ground in impacted areas distributing water, food, and more. Please check our Facebook page for a list of recommended organizations. For continuing updates, visit https://lnkd.in/eX2s3wAD A sincere thank you to all our of vendors, business partners, alumni, and community for reaching out to check on us. 💙

🌲 What Are Public Lands, and Why Should You Care? 🌿 Public lands include everything from national parks and rivers to local green spaces, historic sites, and more. Owned by the government and managed for the public's benefit, they offer countless opportunities—whether you're hiking, learning, having a picnic, or just enjoying the outdoors. Beyond recreation, public lands also protect ecosystems and support environmental preservation. Each year, the fourth Saturday of September is National Public Lands Day, when national parks offer free admission and host events where thousands of volunteers come together to restore and preserve these vital areas. At NOC, many of our adventures—like trips through national forests and along rivers—take place on public lands! Learn more about the incredible public lands in our region, such as the Appalachian Trail, and discover how you can celebrate this weekend. Whether it's through volunteering, practicing Leave No Trace, or becoming an advocate, your involvement makes a difference. ➡ Explore our blog and celebrate Public Lands Day with us!

Hurricane + River Closure Updates Thanks to the Forest Service for being vigilant and cautious with approaching Helene. They have been announcing closures in most southeastern national forests and public access points to rivers. See ⬇ for details and please stay safe out there. We know high water can be fun, but with fast, continuous rain comes flash flooding and landslides. The 𝐍𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐚 𝐑𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫, 𝐆𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭 will be closed starting Thursday morning. NOC Nantahala Resort will remain open for lodging, dining, and shopping. Our river activities will be closed on Thursday and until further notice. The 𝐏𝐢𝐬𝐠𝐚𝐡 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭 Service will announce the closure of the Nolichucky and French Broad Rivers areas. Fingers crossed the storm passes quickly and safely and for some natural high water runs later this weekend pending reopening. We encourage you to be safe and visit the National Forest Service website for updates and changes.  📌 https://lnkd.in/eNwQfNXm

NOC on CBS! 🤩 We had the incredible opportunity to collaborate with Kenneth Powley, his organization Team Democracy, and other rafting partners in August to bring the RAFT America initiative to life in Western North Carolina and it aired this week on several news channels! Steven Foy put his operations and advocacy expertise to work to help us host 30+ paddlers made up of politicians, engaged citizens, other rafting outfitters, and the amazing CBS film crew for a bipartisan rafting trip. We're proud of how our community came together for such a meaningful event encouraging conversation and connection. Special thanks to everyone involved including our NOC guides and team, Wildwater Ltd , Endless River Adventures, Julie Thorner and Team Democracy Please tune in at the link below! #RaftAmerica #NantahalaRiver #Teamwork #noc #teamdemocracy
