The National Association of State Directors of Developmental Disabilities Services (NASDDDS) and ADvancing States are joining forces to provide consultation, subject matter expertise, and technical assistance to states regarding the implementation of the Access Rule, beyond what is traditionally available through the associations’ membership benefits. States may obtain enhanced technical assistance support in a variety of areas pertaining to any of the Access Rule core components. State Aging and Disability and/or Developmental Disability Agency directors, or their counterparts in the state Medicaid agency or elsewhere in state government may request technical assistance. At NASDDDS, contact Jeanine Zlockie at jzlockie@nasddds.org.

“Social determinants of health (SDOH) are the nonmedical factors that influence health outcomes. They are the conditions in which people are born, grow, work, live, and age.” (cdc.gov) These nonmedical factors result in well documented health and well being disparities among minority and marginalized populations, including the focus populations in NASHIA's next Leading Practices Academy. No matter where your state is along the continuum of infrastructure development, NASHIA is ready to help with strategic, customized technical assistance. APPLICATIONS ARE DUE BY DECEMBER 2ND. Since 2018, ACL and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services have funded the National Center on Advancing Person-Centered Practices and Systems (NCAPPS). The mission of NCAPPS is to promote systems change that makes person-centered principles not just an aspiration but a reality in the lives of people who require services and supports across the lifespan. To fulfill this mission, NCAPPS provides free technical assistance to states experiencing significant challenges implementing person-centered planning in compliance with the Home and Community-Based Services Final Rule requirements. NCAPPS works with human services agencies to create tangible action plans and connect them to experienced subject matter experts to provide support in achieving their goals. States have used NCAPPS technical assistance to develop, implement, and improve person-centered planning policies, procedures, processes, guidance documents, manuals, and more. Free NCAPPS technical assistance is currently available through the end of August 2025. To apply for technical assistance, states must complete and submit the online application form. States that submit applications by the end of the day on December 31, 2024, will receive priority review. Applications submitted after this date will be considered based on remaining available funding. Questions can be addressed to ncapps@hsri.org. Learn more and apply here: https://bit.ly/43mdWtj

🇺🇸 In honor of Veterans Day, NASHIA will be closed today as we pause to recognize and thank those who have served. We’re especially mindful today of the high incidence of brain injury among veterans, many of whom face lasting effects from their time in service. We’re committed to supporting the state brain injury programs and partners who work to improve the lives of veterans and all individuals who experience brain injury. Normal operations will resume on Tuesday, November 12th. Wishing everyone a safe and meaningful Veterans Day.
