Our partnership with Metro Parks & Recreation and artists from across the country deals with the Ash tree plight in more ways than one. Modeled after the Chicago Tree Project, the Nashville Tree Project raises awareness about the Emerald Ash Borer epidemic with art installations across the city. Not only are these trees sparking an important conversation, they're getting a second life as public works of art. So far, 4 condemned Ash trees have been converted into brilliant sculptures. The EAB will cost Nashville 10% of its tree canopy, and many trees in public spaces are due for removal. By converting some of these trees into sculptures, we're giving them a chance to inspire and educate the public. Read all about it in Nfocus Magazine's Art + Culture section this month: https://lnkd.in/eVYejeMr

We were thrilled to have two friendly faces, our Urban Forestry Manager, Jason Sprouls, and Board member Vicki Turner, speak at The Old Tree Forum last Sunday. Jason and Vicki spoke on one of our favorite programs, The Big Old Tree Contest, and how it has promoted tree stewardship for the last 30 years. Thank you to the artist, Charles Brindley, for sharing your talents and creating a space for meaningful dialogue about the trees in our community. In his remarks, Charles reminded us that we were participating in a tradition that has been a stronghold in communities for centuries -- learning from one another, sharing our experiences, and honoring the connection between people and trees.

As recent recipients of a Nashville Earth Day grant from Centennial Park Conservancy, NTF completed a substantial planting project this weekend at Moses McKissack Middle School. Thanks to support from Nashville Earth Day and an outstanding volunteer group, we planted 40 trees that will shade many generations of McKissack students, improve stormwater mitigation, and remove pollution from the air. Our robust School Planting program allows us to carry out our mission in some very valuable Nashville spaces. As McKissack Middle's trees take root outside, the students inside are learning to protect and care for their new, leafy friends. We are tree-mendously grateful, as always, for support from our Nashville partners! 🌳

Moving trees all across Davidson County is hard work! Nashville Tree Foundation has experienced so much growth this year, and in 2024 we will be able to make a bigger impact than ever. A new utility trailer will help us deliver trees to parks, schools and neighborhoods. We'll carry tools, supplies, and a watering tank to maintain the trees we've already planted. Support Nashville Tree Foundation and our work planting, preserving and protecting our city's urban tree canopy by making a gift on #GivingTuesday. Donate at https://lnkd.in/eTjCnBZ9 🌿
