The 2024 Farnborough International Airshow is complete and one emerging theme is clear:  There’s a massive global demand for new more sustainable commercial aircraft, and demand is expected to continue for the next 20 years. Industry giants Boeing and Airbus each project a global demand for more than 40,000+ new commercial aircraft over the next 20 years, which represents more than $8 trillion in revenue. Can legacy OEMs meet the demand?  Let’s look at the numbers: In 2023 Boeing manufactured and delivered 528 commercial aircraft while Airbus delivered 735 aircraft over the same period. If we project the reported aircraft production capabilities over the next 20 years, it’s evident today’s legacy OEMs fall well short of meeting global demand. Boeing 528 annual deliveries (2023 numbers) x 20 years = 10,560 total Airbus 735 annual deliveries in (2023 numbers) x 20 years = 14,700 total It's clear more competition is needed and one of the reasons we believe the time is now for Natilus to provide the industry with new hyper efficient aircraft capable of carrying more while using dramatically less fuel. McKinsey & Company partnered with Aviation Week Network to survey 175 leaders from over 80 firms, including airframe and engine OEMs, suppliers, and operators, to understand how they will tackle the challenges of meeting future commercial aircraft demand. Key findings include: -Record-high backlogs for aircraft orders -Industry expects demand for new aircraft to grow at ~8% CAGR -Most predict the arrival of next-gen single-aisle (NGSA) aircraft by 2035 -Disconnect between optimism for new aircraft development and pessimism about production ramp-up. -65% indicate inadequate production systems to meet airframer ramp-up targets The article concludes that the aviation industry is at a crossroads, needing to balance both current production expansion with preparations for next-generation aircraft development. Success will depend on effectively managing both current and future demands, and will require increased transparency between airframers and suppliers. “Siemens' immersive technology is revolutionizing how we develop our next-generation aircraft. It's not just about seeing the design; it's about experiencing it in a way that enhances our engineering decisions and accelerates innovation,” -Aleksey Matyushev, Cofounder and CEO, Natilus. One of the ways Natilus is different than other aircraft companies can be found in the way we design and engineer aircraft. Our mantra of doing more with less and constantly striving to find more efficient paths forward is part of our core DNA as a company. Today our good friends at Siemens announced our collaboration to integrate Siemens Xcelerator portfolio of industry software into our design and engineering workflow. This collaboration is a prime example of how an innovative startup like Natilus can compete with industry giants such as Boeing and Airbus by integrating new technology allowing us to iterate faster, be more agile, and be more collaborative.
