Inspired by the past, taught by the present and propelled to the future!
Today I celebrate one full year as Executive Director of the National Aphasia Association, Inc. I have missed my second family at Triangle Aphasia Project Unlimited but they all know they will always have a piece of my heart. The NAA was another founder's dream. Dr. Martha Taylor Sarno believed that there should be a soft landing place for individuals with aphasia and their families and that this first stop should hold support, resources and connection. It should shine it's bright light on all of the programs and centers and providers across the US (and beyond). It should amplify aphasia voices and create awareness of this frustrating communication disorder and it's impact on people/families/community. I can't express the deep honor and reverence that comes from holding that dream and doing everything in your power to make it thrive and grow. I feel the responsibility and in the first year in service to the NAA I believe I have paved the course BECAUSE of our esteemed Board of Directors, Peer and Professional Providers, dedicated staff and the countless individuals who advocate during what is often a challenging journey. They know they are not alone...and I know, clearly, that neither I am. Stay tuned, friends...there is so much more to come! Thank you for an incredible 365 days, NAA!!!

The "Speak Out Aphasia" team at SCALE Baltimore shine with their presentation of 10 tenets to help people with aphasia along their journey! I'm a particular fan of #5 "I speak for myself and tell others how to best communicate with me."... such empowerment and self-determination!
