About us
NAWG is the primary representative in Washington D.C. for wheat growers, working to ensure a better future for America’s growers, the industry and the general public. In 1950, a handful of wheat growers from across the country formed the National Association of Wheat Growers to work toward common solutions and make decisions for the future of America’s wheat producers. Decades later, NAWG continues to focus on the policies of the U.S. government that affect the livelihoods of U.S. wheat producers. Today, NAWG works with a team of 20 state wheat grower organizations to benefit the wheat industry at state and national levels. From their offices in the Wheat Growers Building on Capitol Hill, NAWG’s staff members are in constant contact with state association representatives, NAWG grower leaders, Members of Congress, Congressional staff members and the public.

This week, USDA announced it would deregulate the HB4 drought-tolerant wheat from Bioceres. This is a big deal for wheat growers! Access to drought-tolerant wheat could help with global supply challenges and further enhance the sustainability of wheat by using less water and other inputs. https://lnkd.in/ehxJSiTq NAWG Secretary Nathan Keane touched on how major wheat-producing regions have grappled with intense drought, and continued innovation like HB4 can be a tool that helps growers protect and stabilize their yields. https://lnkd.in/efgfynSj NAWG supports bringing new wheat technologies and varieties to market. Read our joint principles that outlines how transgenic wheat traits should be commercialized to best meet the U.S. wheat industries’ needs. https://lnkd.in/em2zBtUc

From being one of the largest wheat export paths in the country to providing affordable, reliable clean energy to multiple states, the Lower Snake River Dams are essential for wheat growers and our nation’s economy. Thank you Washington Association of Wheat Growers, for hosting another incredible tour of the dams for congressional staff. Attendees got to hear from a wide variety of stakeholders and see firsthand why we these dams need to remain open.
