About us
Since 1988, the National Center on Education and the Economy (NCEE) has been researching the world’s best-performing education systems to give states and districts the tools they need to become world class. NCEE has been a leader in U.S. education from policy to practice, producing reports that have led to landmark national legislation, supporting states in redesigning their education systems, and providing rigorous, proven supports to more education leaders than any other organization. NCEE’s dedicated, diverse, and experienced staff are working with teachers, school leaders, district leadership teams, and state policy makers to create a new system of education and return the U.S. to the top of the world education ranks.

We feel so fortunate to have added another intern to our team. Please welcome Evren Wilder Elliott! Evren is currently pursuing an MPA at Indiana University Indianapolis, and his passion for #EdPolicy is inspiring. Here’s what drives him: “Education Policy is important to me because it is important to my communities and important to all of the young people I’ve worked with in schools, housing, and public health programs. I believe providing equitable, accessible, and adaptable education to everyone can build a better future for us all. And I believe that through research and collaboration, we can make that happen.” Excited to have you on #TeamNCEE! #TogetherInEd

The educator workforce shortage is a significant challenge affecting students and communities nationwide. States are responding with innovative strategies to attract, retain, and empower teachers, as highlighted by Mathematica. https://bit.ly/3YrIdq8 One call out: Maryland incentivizes excellence by offering advanced career pathways and leadership opportunities—while keeping educators in the classroom. As partners in the development of Maryland’s Blueprint, we recognize how crucial these efforts are for building an equitable, high-performing education system that supports both students and teachers. #EducatorWorkforce #EducationLeadership #TeacherRetention #EducationPolicy Mathematica Blueprint for Maryland's Future Accountability & Implementation Board

With D.C. adopting new standards, students will gain crucial skills in personal finance and economic decision-making. As NCEE's Jackie Kraemer notes, "Financial literacy empowers students to be better decision-makers and plan for their future." This reflects a broader movement to align education with economic opportunity, ensuring students are ready for the challenges ahead. https://bit.ly/4f3DRdZ #FinancialLiteracy #EducationAndEconomy #FutureReady

We recently asked our colleague Annette O'Boyce what key question education leaders should be asking themselves today. Her insightful response struck a chord: The world we are preparing students for looks vastly different from the one we entered just a few decades ago. With the rapid pace of technology, innovation, and the growing influence of social media, it's crucial for us to stay ahead. While the NCEE Blueprint isn't a one-size-fits-all guide, it provides a powerful vision and serves as a valuable springboard for shaping a future-focused strategy in education. https://bit.ly/3yNQw5m
