We champion fairness in banking, housing and business.
About us
The National Community Reinvestment Coalition and its grassroots member organizations create opportunities for people to build wealth. We work with community leaders, policymakers and financial institutions to champion fairness in banking, housing and business. NCRC was formed in 1990 by national, regional, and local organizations to develop and harness the collective energies of community reinvestment organizations from across the country so as to increase the flow of private capital into traditionally underserved communities. NCRC has grown to an association of more than 600 community-based organizations that promote access to basic banking services including credit and savings, to create and sustain affordable housing, job development and vibrant communities for America's working families. Our members include community reinvestment organizations, community development corporations; local and state government agencies; faith-based institutions; community organizing and civil rights groups; minority and women-owned business associations as well as local and social service providers from across the nation. NCRC and fintech companies on the NCRC Innovation Council found common ground that AI can, and sometimes should, be used to reduce discrimination in lending. Regularly testing credit models for discriminatory results is crucial to stop discrimination and comply with the Equal Credit Opportunity Act. AI tools can be effective and efficient for this required anti-discrimination testing. In the joint letter, we also offer 6 recommendations for the CFPB and FHFA to consider, in their work to harness AI to reduce discrimination under the White House Executive Order on the Safe, Secure, and Trustworthy Development and Use of AI.
