To celebrate #NationalInternDay, meet the 2024 interns of NDBC! We had six spring semester Amentum technician apprentices: Tyce, Samantha, Eli, Destiny & Noah (residents of Picayune, MS) joined us from Pearl River Community College, and Kobe (resident of Slidell, LA) joined us from Nenez Community College. Tyce, Samantha, and Eli are back as Amentum interns in Records Management this summer! We also have our NOAA Lapenta Intern, Leilanie, supporting engineering this summer. Leilanie is studying Ocean Engineering at University of Southern Mississippi - Gulfport Campus, and resides in Gautier, MS, originally from Puerto Rico. We’re grateful for these strong STEM students and their work in helping us further our mission! 🌎🌊🔧

Last month, we participated in Take Our Children to Work Day at NASA's John C. Stennis Space Center, and the photos are in! We taught all these future NDBC-ers how a moored buoy stays in its watch circle with a rubber duck experiment. Thanks to our team for showing off our facilities and overseeing a fun learning activity!

From NOAA's National Hurricane Center discussion on #HurricaneBeryl yesterday morning: “NOAA buoy 42059 to the north of the eye recently reported sustained winds of 72 mph (115 km/h) and a wind gust of 94 mph (151 km/h).” NDBC station 42059 was 34nm NE of Hurricane Beryl, and it also captured a pressure drop to 992 mbar and waves at 38 ft (11.5 m) before it stopped reporting data. #HurricaneObservationsRecap #Beryl https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/
