“We gained excellent insight from last year’s #StudentLoan #OpinionPoll data and knew a follow-up survey with borrowers one year later would offer additional nuance and context to those viewpoints. In comparing the data from the two polls, we better understand the impact borrower planning, new knowledge, interactions with loan providers, policies by the federal government and other changes have had since repayment began. It also seems that some anticipated outcomes, such as the number of borrowers needing to make budgetary adjustments, may not have been as severe.” – Billy J. Hensley, Ph.D., President and CEO, NEFE, on the results of this year’s #StudentLoan #OpinionPoll. Read more: https://bit.ly/4gQif6x

That’s a wrap on day two of the National Endowment for Financial Education's 2024 Financial Education Innovation & Impact Summit #FEII24! As we bring the Summit to a close, I must acknowledge how filled I am with gratitude and hope. I am appreciative of each of you as the leaders in the field of #financialeducation. Our opening keynote this morning—Megan Gorman, founding partner of the female-owned Chequers Financial Management, member of the #NEFE Board of Trustees, and now a best-selling author—presented on money lessons learned through the history of presidents and how the American Dream is being redefined for many. This led nicely into our breakout sessions, which included conversations on the challenges and effectiveness of #K12 instruction, the importance of closing the racial wealth gap and barriers to financial participation. A highlight from the Summit was the engagement wall. Our hope was that attendees would include their viewpoints to inspire others. Some of my takeaways, which encapsulated the overall feeling of the event, include: - Start early - Encourage the heart - Be trauma informed - Know that others are just as inspired as you The planning and execution of this convening requires tremendous effort. I am so proud of the NEFE staff, who demonstrated skill, support and expertise in crafting this event. NEFE’s role as a convener is essential in bringing value to our field. We hope you found this gathering beneficial in helping advance your work. I want to express our appreciation to each of you who attended the Summit. You all brought unique experiences and insights, and so much can be learned and leveraged from the expertise of those who gathered here in Denver. We hope this event spearheaded new collaborations, partnerships and ideas that will benefit you in your work. Two days ago, I said that I hoped by the end of the Summit we would have generated enthusiasm, thoughtful dialogues and collective strategies to advance all of our work. We accomplished that! NEFE will continue to be present in support of your work to advance effective, equitable and inclusive financial education. Huzzah! #FEII24
