  • Last month, our partners at People's Self-Help Housing in collaboration with 5 Cities Homeless Coalition celebrated the grand opening of Pismo Terrace! This #affordablehousing apartment building in Pismo Beach, CA serves not only #lowincome and formerly homeless people, but also transitional-age youth (TAY). With help from the city, Pismo Terrace is now a safe, stable, and affordable place to call home for 50 households earning between 30-60% of the area median income (AMI). Twenty-five units target special needs households (homeless/formerly homeless and people with disabilities) and five are set aside for TAY. Learn more about this inspiring development at the link below! https://lnkd.in/gafkC9kN.

A couple of weeks ago, our partners at Resource Center celebrated the official opening of Oak Lawn Place, an #affordablehousing development in the heart of Dallas' Oak Lawn neighborhood. Resource Center's mission is to pursue societal equity by proudly offering LGBTQIA+ affirming resources designed to improve health and wellness, strengthen families and communities, and provide transformative education and advocacy. To bring the project to life, Resource Center worked closely with Matthews Southwest on the planning and development of North Texas' first LGBTQ-affirming affordable #seniorhousing center. The development brings 84 units of high-quality and affordable housing and meant to provide stability and community for #LGBTQIA+ seniors 55+. While LGBTQ+ individuals are a primary focus of the development, Oak Lawn Place does not exclusively serve individuals who identify as members of the community and its doors are open to all applicants who may need a home, showing true inclusivity. Read more about this groundbreaking development and learn more about the residents who live here in the article below! https://lnkd.in/gDjjGqaA

  • Our final 2024 Charles L. Edson Award Winner for Green and Healthy Housing is Vista Verde, which was honored at the ceremony in Washington D.C. last week. To tackle the challenge of providing affordable workforce housing while being sustainable, Breckenridge, Colorado hired Gorman & Company to build Vista Verde, an affordable housing development with 80 units serving households earning between 30%, 50%, 60%, and 100% of the area median income (AMI). Located a few miles north of the resort town's central business district, Vista Verde achieved a #netzero designation by installing solar panels, which means the building produces enough energy onsite to offset energy consumption. Congratulations to our partners at Gorman & Company, the Town of Breckenridge, Colorado, and the investors involved in making this outstanding #affordablehousing development possible! • The Carlton Apartments won the 2024 Charles L. Edson Award for HUD Preservation and was honored at the ceremony in Washington D.C last week. Located in the Sheridan Park Historic District of Chicago's Uptown neighborhood and built in 1925 as a hotel, the Carlton Apartments were transformed in 2022 from 70 single room occupancy units into 68 studio apartments for individuals struggling with homelessness and/or residents with special needs. The historic building with its Collegiate Gothic architecture was first renovated and converted into permanent #supportivehousing in 1993. Mercy Housing led the current rehabilitation and reconfigured the first floor to increase common area amenities, and modernized the units in the building, especially kitchens, bathrooms and common areas. The Carlton Apartments legacy of providing affordable homes to extremely low-income Chicagoans experiencing chronic #homelessness and disabilities will continue well beyond its 100-year-anniversary. Congratulations to our partners at Mercy Housing Lakefront and the investors involved in making this outstanding #affordablehousing development possible. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL-9) presented the award at the official award ceremony. Learn more about our award-winning developments at the link below. https://lnkd.in/gzausypH

Our second #affordablehousing development honored at the 2024 Charles L. Edson Tax Credit Excellence Awards ceremony in Washington D.C was Millworks Family Housing in the Small Metropolitan Housing category. Millworks Family Housing (MFH) is an innovative Public-Private partnership that provides 83 units of #energyefficient, permanently affordable family housing restricted at 30%, 50%, and 60% of the Area Median Income (AMI), including 15 units serving formerly homeless households. Located in the Port of Bellingham’s waterfront redevelopment district in the heart of downtown Bellingham, Washington, MFH is one of the first of a multi-year, multi-phase development, Mercy Housing Northwest (MHNW) and the city worked closely to integrate the project into a larger master plan. The ground floor is home to a six-classroom Early Learning Center operated by the YMCA of Whatcom County. Congratulations to our partners at Mercy Housing Northwest and the investors involved in making this outstanding affordable housing development possible. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) and Representative Rick Larsen (D-WA-2) presented the award at the official award ceremony.
