Interested in learning about how the press can help us heal divisions in a period of extreme political polarization? Tune in on Thursday, October 24th, to a panel discussion on "Bridging America's Divide in an Election Year." Moderated by National Institute for Civil Discourse Executive Director Keith Allred, the conversation will feature Johanna Maska, former press aide to President Obama, and Sean Spicer, former press secretary for President Trump. These experienced insiders will share insights from their time in the White House and explore ways to foster unity and understanding in a politically divided nation. The event will begin at 7 p.m. Mountain Time/10 p.m. Eastern Time and will be live-streamed on a link shared on the National Institute for Civil Discourse’s Facebook page.

On the 23rd anniversary of the September 11th attacks in New York City, Washington DC, and Flight 93 in Southwestern Pennsylvania, we mourn for the lives lost. We will never forget the heroic actions of first responders and our nation's commitment to rebuild in the wake of profound loss. Today, we reflect and honor those who died on that terrible day.

Last week, the American Political Science Association held its annual conference. This year, there was a special plenary series of panels on democracy. NICD's Timothy Shaffer joined moderator Hahrie Han and fellow panelists Danielle Allen, Daniel Ziblatt, and Guy-Uriel Charles for an engaging discussion exploring democratic competition, participation, and liberties. A common theme that came up from the panelists was the role of civic education for youth and adults. #APSA2024 https://lnkd.in/eQhUC9JU
