Jinghan Li, University of Minnesota, is the recipient of the 2024 NIPTE Outstanding Student Research Award “Li Jinghan is an exceptionally talented scientist with impressive achievements early in his career. His academic portfolio boasts 16 peer-reviewed articles, with 10 as first or co-first author, and 22 presentations at both institutional and international conferences, including 4 oral presentations. His accolades include the U Minnesota Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship, the David and Marilyn Grant Fellowship, and the International Pharmaceutical Excipient Council Student Award, among others.” – Yongchao Su, Ph.D., FRSC, Principal Scientist, MERCK, and Adjunct Faculty, Purdue University Jinghan's scientific research spans small molecule solid dosage forms to large molecule formulations, with a deep focus on understanding molecular interactions and mechanisms. "I would like to express my gratitude to Drs. Raj Suryanarayanan and Yongchao Su for their nomination, and to the NIPTE committee members for selecting me as the Outstanding Student Researcher. Dr. Diane Burgess, Pfizer Distinguished Chair in Pharmaceutical Technology, Board of Trustees Distinguished Professor, University of Connecticut School of Pharmacy, has been selected as the 2024 David J. W. Grant NIPTE Distinguished Scholar in Basic Pharmaceutics. Professor Burgess has dedicated her research efforts to advancing the field of basic pharmaceutics and drug delivery science, focusing on microspheres, nanoparticles, liposomes, emulsions, and hydrogels. Her work spans from fundamental colloid and interfacial chemistry to practical applications, resulting in over 280 refereed publications, book chapters, and patents as well as over 735 invited presentations at major scientific meetings. Dr. Burgess has also received numerous awards and recognitions. “Throughout her illustrious career, Dr. Burgess has fostered a nurturing, inclusive, and diverse research and training environment that has empowered numerous junior scientists to flourish and achieve success. Under her guidance, her students not only excel in their research pursuits but also hone invaluable leadership skills.” Philip M. NIPTE Board Member & Outgoing Chair, Dr. Indra K. Reddy, named Founding Dean Emeritus of Irma Lerma Rangel School of Pharmacy, Texas A&M University The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents has honored Indra K. Reddy, PhD, with the prestigious title of Founding Dean Emeritus of the Texas A&M University Irma Lerma Rangel School of Pharmacy. This honor recognizes his distinguished and dedicated service during his illustrious 20-year tenure as the founding dean, during which he transformed the school into one of the nation's leading institutions. Updates to NIPTE's Leadership: NIPTE is pleased to announce that Dr. James Drennen, Duquesne University, will begin his three-year term as the board's 8th chair on July 1. Drennen is a long-time NIPTE member and leader. He currently serves as vice chair of the Board. Dr. Philip Hritcko, University of Connecticut, will now serve as the vice chair. In a joint statement, Drennen and NITPE’s Executive Director, Vadim Gurivch, stated, “It is time to reflect before we forge ahead. We must first recognize outgoing chair, Dr. Indra K, Reddy, Texas A&M University, for his outstanding leadership and unwavering dedication. Dr. Reddy played a significant role in shaping the NITPE strategy and direction, and thoughtfully helped to facilitate a plan for seamless transition.” Gurvich added that he especially appreciates Drennen’s continued leadership on the Board in this expanded role. “The Organization is in good hands as we set forth— building on the Board’s current vision while pursuing new initiatives and opportunities.” Congratulations Drs. Today, the US depends on imports from China and other overseas sources for a majority of the APIs used to make drug products critical to US patients.
